Ok so I'm really enjoying the mareva/PC vitola in most of its forms (Bolivar, H Upmann, PC as well as the Monte 4 and Siglo II). I've also recently had a very nice experience with the Bolivar coronas junior which is the perfect size for my current time constraints (weather, work etc.). I've also got some partagas shorts which I believe are the same size but very harsh on my initial smoke so I think they need some time (2010).

So my question is what else in this size range is smoking good in recent years?

PLPCs and Bolivar PCs are my favorites in the Mareva size. I really like the Partagas Shorts for an even shorter smoke.

I second the San Cristobal El Principe!!! One of the all time great 'small sticks', even ROTT!

But here's a little disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of Parti Shorts or PLPC's - with 2-3 years on them they start to become tolerable, but still not something I'd reach for very often. YMMV.

The Party Short gets my vote for sub-pc cigars, though I've only had one Boli CJ (and it was good) and one SCdlH El Principe (boring), so that's not a good comparison. The Party shorts get much better as they age.

As far as true PCs, the Bolivar is tough to beat. Trinidad Reyes are pricey but top-drawer smokes. I've never had a Cohiba Sig 2, so can't comment.

The Monte #4 ... oh Cuba, please get rid of the Castros, lol! The first 4 Monte #4s I had were very ho-hum and not worth the cost of admission. But the most recent one I had (from a Canadian brother here) was just fan-freakin-tastic. I'm told that the Monte #2s and #4s are probably the two most inconsistent Habanos (because of their immense production numbers).

The only Party PCE I've had was pretty fresh, but shows promise. The Mille Fluers lines in both Partagas and R&J are much lighter, but unique, tasty and cheap. When I was going through a very bad period with CCs it was an R&J MF that got me out of my slump.

I have not hade any fresh but I am going thru this cab from 08 like crazy and another one on the way. I wouldnt mind trying one from 2010, one thing is sure imo, the 2010 stuff is proving to be very high quality but the golden year is 2006, anything you find from that year, buy it!

Yep. Just cracked an '06 cab and they are superb. '06 and '08 seem to be great years for most marcas.

This is intresting, our dear friend Jim is lobbying hard for the 2008 and I have asked around, smoked but nothing from 2008 in the regular produktion tastes better then usual to me or ANYONE I have asked, I know Rob from FOH says some stuff from late 2008 is roving to be good but I just dont see it and neither does anyone I know. But 2008 Partagas 898 has been bad the 2 boxes I have had, and the 10-15 my buddies has tryed has pretty much been below standard.

Wish I got my hand on one of the 2008 boxes you guys have to be able to try one good from 2008.

For my taste you cant beat the Boli PC & CJ. Also like MC#4 & #5 if you can get a HQ box. RASCC is nice, but needs age. Never a big fan of El Principe or Party Shorts. PLPC is OK, but I'd rather spend money on the Bolis & MCs.

Besides what's already mentioned I'd also recomend the Montecristo No.5's. I've found them to be more consistant than the No.4's

Boli CJ's, Trini Reyes & shorts are also good little sticks to have around.

The recent Upmann Regalias have also been very good.

My 07 PLPC's are coming around nicely as well.
