So...I'm sure everyone has come across the situation where your stockpile of some favorite sticks starts to run dangerously low and you don't have the means to replenish it...be it due to limited runs...low funds...whatever.

In the past when I found myself in those situations, I would be craving a certain cigar, but put it back in the humidor because "I only have a few left". But recently, I have started to have a change of heart...maybe it's my looming deployment, or maybe I've reached an age where I just decided to enjoy what I have when I have it.

I will admit that I will probably cry a bit deep down inside when some of these sticks are gone (like my box of DE BOTL 2012 that is down to 3), but it has been an amazing last few weeks enjoying some of these all time favorites.

How about you guys? Do you hang onto certain stuff, or just enjoy what you have?

IMO, those sticks are for smoking brother. :) That's part of the obsession. As soon as they've aged to your liking, destroy by fire. I only save my absolute favorites (which are often the most expensive) for very special occasions. And usually that means smoking with a good friend / BOTL. #Lifestooshort!

Totally with you here. They're just cigars... Granted some are incredibly delicious! But there'll be more. And plus when you burn through your last one (or share your last few with some brothers at a herf) you'll hopefully have a good memory of the time spent .

I don't own any cigars that aren't for smoking. But there is one I have designated for the day I retire, but Lord willing it will meets its intended fate. I figure the years of work and craftsmanship that went into making a fine cigar possible deserves to be enjoyed. We owe that to the people who worked to make it happen.

You can't take 'em with ya. Smoke those suckers!

Maybe hang on to a couple for special occasions. Any day can be a special occasion, though!

I keep telling myself the good lord can pull my card at anytime and I should smoke them all, but realistically I keep two stashes. One to smoke and one for collectible reasons. Hate to sound materialistic but you can make great money if you have the know how, storage capability and a boatload of patience. Just today I was informed by a cigar collector that the Monte 2008 Sublimes LE was currently at $700-800/box of 10. He predicts $4-6K in 10 years. I have three boxes I purchased @$400 each 5-6 years ago. Those might cover one daughters wedding someday.

I'm not technically a collector, however I do suffer the same predicament. I can't convince myself to smoke some cigars knowing that I may never have another. And I know they aren't going to get any better.
I have a Tat TAA 2012 that I KNOW will be beautiful right this very minute and will probably not get much better with age. Just can't pull the trigger. As is the case with a few others in my stash. It almost makes me feel better knowing I have it rather than the pleasure I would get from smoking it. And herein lies the answer. If you will have more pleasure having it to smoke "later" than you will have setting it to flame at this moment, then save it.
It's kind of like a lottery ticket. We don't really buy a ticket because we think we are going to win, we buy it for entertainment value. "What would I do with all that money?" The same holds true with that cigar we all hold on to. "It's going to be great, but I'll wait."
But that's my $.02. Truth is that even though I don't take my own advice, I urge you to smoke them. Life is short and you never know which cigar will be your last. Burn it brother.
