I gave a buddy of mine a Flying Pig to try. He nubbed it before I got to the second half.
I am spending my time hunting them down, one by one (literally), and people are wasting them. NICE. :crying:

p.s. With regard to the topic, sometimes it just comes down to windows of time. Sometimes I ONLY have an hour. I going to light up a Frank? That may seem like common sense and it is to me NOW. My first "pig" lasted 90 minutes. I credit at least of the joy of that cigar were reviews and being mindful of the shape and not wanting the stick to get too hot, especially at the end. I also agree that some things burn faster or slower than others of the same size, no matter who smokes them.

The time reference in a review appeals to me in a vicarious way as in: "damn, two hours with a fine cigar outdoors on a nice autumn day - can't get better than that" or "40 minutes with a dog rocket just to finish the review. That must have been sheer torture. He deserves a medal."

Well
I guess I fall into the it doesn't bother me either way. I tend to smoke a little to fast so most don't match my smoking pasterns and I guess I agree we all know the approximate time most sizes will last with our own habits.

For the most part I don't read reviews anyway. I prefer to form my own opinion based on how MY taste buds interrupted the stick.

I think it's just part of the review experience. To me it doesn't really matter but still interesting to see what the smoker has to say.

I find that smoke time can vary from cigar to cigar in the same vitola so I do look at smoke time as a reference. One example I remember is The Frank, seems like every time I smoke one I'm into it for almost 3 hours but other double coronas get me about 2 hours.

Also, like you mentioned, if I see someone blazing through a toro in 30 minutes it let's me know their review will likely not be close to what I experience. There was a kid (I say kid, I think he was 25'ish) on another forum that wrote a TON of reviews. But he used to comment in there that he likes to smoke 'em fast and hot. There's no way he'll get the same flavors and experience out of a cigar that I will so I learned to skip over his reviews. On the flip side, I also learn some reviews like the same cigars that I do and smoke and about the same speed as I do so their reviews mean more to me.

I don't find much use for it either Clint. I noted it on my RC233 review, because it was so far out of the average smoke time. Near 3 hours. I see reviews from guys who say it took 2 hours to smoke a robo. HOW? robo's couldn't really last more than1:15 even if tight. So I have to wonder how many times it was re-lit. So outside of the odd lengths of time, I figure every robo is between 45-60 minutes for me. And if it's so tight it's gonna take me longer than that, I'll toss it and grab a better constructed smoke. So I'm with Clint, no need. Most smokes of one size, last about as long as other smokes of the same size.

Wouldn't you like to know?
For me if you read a lot of reviews from one smoker it helps in a guess towards construction. I find that many padrons smoke very quickly and smoking times in reviews once you have established how that guy smokes will give you an idea towards the construction. People tend to pick on some fuente's for being over peiced. My view is the over priced fuente's generally have some of the best construction of any cigar I have ever smoked. They tend to be rock hard with a perfect draw. They tend to take twice as long to smoke as softer cigars. I think everyone has smoke a robusto that has smoked like a churchill that smoke like a robusto. I find it helpfull to know if a cigar falls into one of those categories. While I smoke cigars for the flavour I do like to appreciate the artistry that goes into rolling a slow smoking tightly packed cigar with a beautiful cap.
