it's not just the 5 gallon bucket...it's also the larger pots...not everyone has a lot of room...also if the beer sucks, you don't feel as bad pouring 1 gallon instead of 5.
The beer never sucks. It's beer. :D

That 1 gallon set up does sound neat. I would use it to test prototype batches.

I was very close, and still might, to pulling the trigger on this...

Then I started looking around the site, and wondered about the same question as you posted here Justin.

What about something like this as opposed to the groupon deal for you guys who know what the eff you're doing?...lol...

I know it's not discounted, but if I'm gonna go in...I wanna do it right, ya know?

or even this one... http://www.midwestsupplies.com/homebrewing-equipment/equipment-kits/compare-all-kits/brewing-starter-kit.html

I have recently sold all of my glass carboys for the fear of dropping one and having it explode. I carry up and down the stairs a lot. I use plastic Better Bottles (PET) now if I split batch or do a secondary fermentaion.

Just my opinion, a lot of people use the glass still and there is nothing wrong with them.

It is all about how deep you want to get into this hobby and how much you want to spend. You will make good beer with the starter kit.

I primarily use the PET better bottles with racking valve. The valves are expensive if bought new but goddamn they make life easy. I do have three glass 5 gal fermentors that I plan on using for longer term sour beers. I didn't buy them though they were a dumpster find when I worked at the B&M on a sunday over the summer. I am scared to death when handling those glass ones that I'll drop one, break it, and end up with a ton of stitches if I don't bleed out.

I pulled the trigger on this last night. I am looking forward to start home brewing now. I am waiting until we move into the new house. I have to get an O ring for my turkey fryer first. I need to buy a big kettle also. But this is a good start to a new hobby.

I have wanted to get into it, I just don't want to half ass it. So if I do a 5 gal batch how many cases of 12oz bottles would I need. I started collecting bottles; 12oz and litter bottles and I have 4 1/2 gal jugs too.

The whole cleaning of the bottles is the crappy part I would think.

I passed, I dont have the space or money to get into it right now and from what I have read elsewhere, this deal pops up every 3 or 4 months.

I have a kegerator so I will set up to keg my beer. It seems so much easier I have made beer before a long time ago. It was a pain cleaning all the bottles. My beer turned out good my old roommate got to enjoy it. I left all of my stuff in North Carolina when I moved back to Arizona. I do not know if he kept doing it or not. It is the same setup I had in NC. It did make good beer it tasted like Sam Adams.

5 gallons makes about 50 bottles. I just out them in my dishwasher rack when its time to clean them ;)

I do have a keg system and agree its much easier, but I bottle stuff every once in awhile if I know I'll be giving some away.

Pulled trigger on this. I've been wanting to learn brewing for a long time, and now I'm stationed with some experienced brewers with room for me to brew at their place. Off we go!! First off, a seriously hoppy IPA.

For those of you guys that are or will be bottling I will post up a little tutorial on how I bottle. I think it's stupid easy, on my own it's not a pain, with a person to help it's even faster.
