Over this past weekend, I attended The Great Smoke 2010 in Palm Beach. I had the opportunity to speak with many well known blenders, and after doing a little digging, got some info on some upcoming smokes:
- La Flor will be releasing a Small Batch No. 3 around the end of the year (November-ish)
- Alan Rubin (of Alec Bradley) is still producing new blends, and intends on releasing a higher end smoke (Starts with an "M". Couldn't understand him.) around the time the IPCPR is suppose to hit New Orleans. He seemed very excited about it, and I have a feeling these are going to something special.
At some point during the day, I found myself speaking with Pete Johnson (of Tatuaje) and he shared some information with me that I thought was worth mentioning:
Apparently, there is this video of some pre-embargo "El Triunfador" being opened for the first time circling around the internet. Link: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwq7at4Kb30"]YouTube- MVI_7845.AVI[/ame]
Pete says, "hey check these out", and pulls out these pre-Castro El Triunfador's from under the table. He said after seeing the video he JUST HAD to acquire that box for "Art-Work" purposes. He later said that is the same exact box from that video.
Pete also mentioned that the La Verite project will be debuting in June (Contrary to what most people think). I also got the feeling, The "Red Label" El Triunfador release is just around the corner. This is because he was handing a few out to people who knew what they were. (I Received four, two of which where promptly traded away).
And last but not least, the most exciting (and truely random) thing to ever happen to me at a cigar event. A Rep from Cigar rights of America handed me the new CRA sampler pack (for reasons beyond me).
I am a member, but i did not pay for these (I think). At the time I didn't think anything of it. I Thought everyone else there was getting them, but I later found out that this was not the case. I am assuming he thought I was someone that I wasn't. He had mentioned that these will be shipping out (to members only) at the end of march.
