I plan to put in a mini-split Mitsubishi unit next spring that will heat and cool my garage. For now I use a Kerosene heater similar to the one below in the garage and out on my covered deck I have this unit my neighbor gave me has porch warming gift when we moved into our new house.

I'm jealous I didn't get to rebuild my shed this year so I will be sitting in my wood shed freeze my balls off.
Make the trek with thatjohnguy and come down to the smokeshack. I'm only like 75mins from the hammer.

For unheated shed smoking though, one of those parabolic ones should work just fine. Kept wilfredsimpson and I plenty warm while the shed was under construction.
Brent I think I may take you up on that offer this winter that's for sure and if John is interested I will most definitely bring him along. I haven't met him yet so it would be perfect way to meet lol.

Doesnt get nearly as cold down here as it does in your neck of the woods...

but this is what I use in the garage....

http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-SportCat-PerfecTemp-Catalytic-Heater/dp/B0009PUPSI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384270612&sr=8-1&keywords=Coleman+Propane+Heater

Gives me about 12 hours of heat out of a single small propane cylinder ($5 at walmart or target for 2 cylinders).. so I am paying about $0.21 an hour for heat..

It wont bring the garage up to 70 degrees or anything in the dead of winter but it will get it to a level of reasonable comfort in about 20-30 minutes.. and then keep it there..

The dish heaters from costco are great as they heat things not air. Point it at yourself and you be warm. Second best is the small ceramic heaters. Very efficient, cheap and they work great.

I found one of the small Pelonis ceramic heaters at a second hand shop. Paid five bucks for it. It heats my 9x12 home office (converted porch) quiet well even with the window fans blowing air out.
