We went by one when looking for a basement stairwell door. That store was awsome. They had alot of reclaimed doors but nothing the size I was looking for. My wife really wanted an old door w some nice glass. We wound up getting a 6 panel door at home Depot that had a small cut in it for 20$ I filled the cut w caulk and no one is any wiser. Then I pained it john deere green. It's pretty cool

It's taken a while but I've finally hit a satisfying milestone in the duck case project: final carcass assembly. To get from my previous post to this point, I had to pre-finish the wine racking and the interior faces of of the carcass components since they won't be easily accessible (if at all) once the everything was glued up. At the risk of putting a crick in your necks, here's a photo of it on its side, still in the clamps:

After I fair the joinery, sand it, and finish it, I'll move on to making the trim piece that sits on top.

I like the looks to the deck...especially the dark balusters.

I made some visual progress on my project. After masking off the interior to save some cleanup, I began sanding the outside of the case last night and called it quits after getting through 150-grit. I finished up this morning with 220-grit, vacuumed the gross dust off, and wiped it down with alcohol to get the stubborn fines. Here it is with a coat of boiled linseed oil:

I'll start working on the top trim next but I also have to get started on a wedding gift for my sister. I'm behind the power curve on that.

Nothing impressive to report on the display/wine rack since I've just been milling pieces for the top trim. However, I've been multitasking and made some progress on my sister's gift: a keepsake box. Here's a SketchUp rendering of the plan:

The box body, bottom, and the lid center panel are of curly maple. The base frame, lid frame, miter splines, and handle are of padauk. I have the base, box body, and bottom essentially done but not glued up. The next photo shows the pieces in a dry fit, with a coat of oil to pop the figure.

Padauk is a gorgeous wood but sanding makes a real mess. Freshly cut or sanded, it has a strong orange tint so my fingers almost looked like I had been eating Cheetos. I have to be careful not to contaminate the maple pieces because the fine dust can work itself into the grain.

Started this a few weeks back with the help of a buddy. Not quite done yet. Gotta paint and add some doors to the cabinet section. But it will help a ton with storage and give me a spot for a tv in the garage for winter smoking.

Stout and useful shelving there.
Just two more pictures to wrap my project up. The clients picked up the display wine rack this morning and just sent me some photos with the ducks in place:

Not shown, is the glass cover but then, that wouldn't likely photograph too well. They posted on Facebook that they're quite pleased with it so I am too...and a little relieved. There was that distant little voice in the back of my head wondering if it might not turn out as they expected. Well, it can just shut up now.
Once I finished, it was strange not having to go out in the shop to work on it. Well, that was nothing compared to it being gone. The shop (my garage) seems cavernous now...sorta...not really...but it sure is emptier.

Yet again, Pinterest is ruining my life...

Immediate projects:
Kitchen renovation, all new appliances, sink, countertops, paint and cabinet facelift.
Trex decking in the backyard
Fresh coat of paint on all the outdoor trim.

If we can pull it off:
Siding...its original and needs gone.

The list is endless. I underwent a major home addition 2 years ago and still havnt recovered fully. Once you have half a house thats brand new the old half looks even older. Ugg.

I'm finishing up an 8'x12' shed. Summer projects include a fire pit area remodel and finishing a closet in our bonus room. Longer term I've got my sights set on a 20'x40' barn.

I got two projects going simultaneously. First one is a pool for the fam. Second one is dropping 50 pounds. I bet the pool gets done first. That reminds me, time to go make some cornbread to go with the grilled chicken.
