I immediately remove the shrink wrap from a new box (this is shrink wrap, not cello and is necessary to retain humidity during shipping), write the date on the bottom, then check the contents for evidence of beetles before I shelve them in the humidor. I then leave the boxes closed to allow further box aging and prevent possible infusion from airborne contaminants or other cigars. IMO this keeps them reasonably pure. Don't worry about the humidity, a closed box will still "breathe" enough for RH balance but not with with shrink wrap still on. Just keep the Acids out of the humi. If I had some they would be kept in a tupperdore.

This has worked well for me for years but I'm sure there are other suitable methods.
