Its not so much a poking feeling as it just starts to get a little raw after a while and irritating. Some parts of the body hurt more than others, like the ribs or the inside of the arm.

Its really not as bad as it sounds.
I have tattoos that are extremely detailed. It isn't that bad. Like it's said above it feels like your skin is getting rubbed raw...like a bad rug burn after a while. That's how it feels to me anyway.

So a question......what do you take to the artist? A jpeg on CD...a printed color picture? I would want it detailed.

I always took a printed color picture...however mine are black and grey work so color doesn't matter in my case.

My artist traced some his base from my picture and freehanded much of it as well. Some of my tattoos, like my left shoulder, was really more of a running idea that was "on the fly" as he was tattooing. I didn't bring in a picture, he kind of tattooed as I talked. In a case like that you really have to trust your artist however.

since most of my pieces were full or half sleeves I would collect pictures and images. I would put a mini libriary together. I normally sit with the artist to plan everything out prior to any work being done. At that time I would bring all my reference and we would decide what he needed and what he didn't. What I took back went back in my file for possible future use. I would bring in color or B&W pictures. You should try to bring in something in color tho. The color helps show the depths of the detail a lot better then B&W.

I am with Randy, too skeered, so call me a pussy then. I can just imagine what a tat will look like 20 years from now on my body, like there all smeared and stretched out. The thought of getting one never has crossed my mind and doubt it ever will.

Yea, the whole, what is that green blob on you 20 years from now has me second guessing one.

To combat this, you can always get it updated. I plan on getting mine refreshed within a year as I already notice some slight fading in the finer lines of some of the detail work. I suppose with this, as anything in life, you get out of it what you put in. But, of course, tattoos are definitely NOT for everyone.

Ha...I remember a Simpsons episode with bart simpsons grandpa in it. He had a blue blob on his arm and had to stretch it out to show what it was. Hilarious! :hysterica
