So I have been trying to get my hands on a couple of tat blacks from the jar release and came across someone who says they have some from the OR before the jar. Is 125 for a 5er and a black robusto too much?

I am having a really hard time making this call...

If you can get some of the CG out of the jar pick them up they are a real treat. Out of those and the robusto go for the CG. As far as price goes it all comes down to how much you want to smoke one. If I wanted a 5 pack I would spend that much.

The robustos were meant to be free (3 pack) with a purchase of a box of Tatuaje from the retailers. So, to be honest, there is not an MSRP. But, I would put them at $13 a stick MSRP. To pay $25 a stick, I would have to think about that first. Don't get me wrong, I love the stick dearly, but I also think about what this person is doing and it makes the stick a little sour. Just my .02.

I agree Hendy, very well put. The fact that he is asking that much did put me off a bit. And since I have never smoked one, I don't think I can justify spending 25 a stick. I gues I will have to pass on this offer.

Not worth it. The CG from the jar is a very nice, and I mean very nice, cigar. But 25$ - I don't think. Your opinion my differ.

I paid $15 a stick for some a while back, but I wouldn't pay $25...

I've had a couple shots at a whole jar for $400 and I couldn't do it, that's $21 and change per stick.

Honestly, at $25/stick I'd consider it for a while. I'd still say no, but I'd think about it. At 5-for-$100 I'd do it, though.

Of course, I'm not buying cigars right now, so it's moot ... but it's fun to think about

But I'd never mock anyone who paid $25 for one. That's the price of a Padron 45th or the upcoming Tat Verite ... if you like the Black cg more (and since it's no longer made), who'd say it's dumb to buy one of those instead?

gonna have to make as to whether YOU FEEL it's worth it...

Maybe u can work a deal where it's partial cash, and a couple
of sticks that the person wants (if you even have them!)

Hopefully, the person will either lower the price for you, or y'all can work out a trade of some kind. I would pay $25 for a Black CG because I've never had one, but I probably would only buy 1 or 2 at that price.

What does "OR before the Jar" release mean?

There was no Black label cigars PUBLICLY released before the jar, as far as I know...

Did he expound on that?

Yes, that is true...(but hard to prove that they were from that release, I would imagine)...

As for the price, see if he will drop to $100/5ver...

As with everything Pete makes. I believe these are the "after release" sticks. He tends to have bundles made after the normal production in case there are some replacements needed. But it seems it always turns out that replacements are never needed and these "bundles" pop up in very limited quantities.

That being said. I believe these are the exact same sticks from the jars, less the jar. Still have a hard time with the price though.

From what I gather, they are exactly the same, but they were originally culled because the wrapper was a bit too light so they were released separately.

These are my cigars guys, and I think there is some misunderstanding.

These are from the the very first commercial release of the blacks. They were given to a very small group of retailers. These were purchased at Ambassador cigars in Scottsdale AZ in 12-07. My understanding, and according to Vitolas, there were 1000 rolled for Petes personal collection and (approx.) 250 cigars rolled for this commercial release as of the November publishing of the entry. I don't know how many more than that were actually rolled, but my assumption is not many at all. These cigars are exactly alike the ones Moki has on vitolas. Same presentation, same number (24) cigar in the bundle. Up until that point, the only time you got a black was from Pete's hand. My understanding was that the Jar release of 19000 (approx) were rolled in early 08, but I can't find anything to verify this. These were NOT cello'd. None of the OR Blacks were celloed. Neither was the Jar (at least MY jar). Perhaps the celloed one were the leftover blacks that had no Jar. My understanding is that these bundles came with 25 cigars. The first and only time I saw celloed black CG's was at IPCPR in Aug 08 when Kurtdesigns handed me one at the Wynn.

Nevertheless, they are from a completely different release - the first release. And frankly, I would bet they are the last cigars from this release out there (accept from Petes personal stash). I was lucky to score two of the four bundles that Varten had at the time, and the rest of my purchase are gone.
