Sometimes I get obsessed by the whole "best" thing. That sampler is a GREAT start. You will appreciate them even more, not less, when you start moving up the brand/quality ladder. I wonder whether I could truly appreciate and understand what a good and/or great cigar is without smoking some good and bad ones? While my experience and palate are just starting to turn a corner and I am able to experience and appreciate on a deeper level, I am grateful for every smoke. How else does one get there?

Taste and likes aside, which is a whole other thread, how many people on here would know the difference between and exceptional cigar and a once in a decade release that will stand as a benchmark to the brand or style? Does it even matter?

I relish my first sticks and what they have taught me, maybe especially the bad ones. :)

Well put man, well put:clap:

When you are ready to taste one of Don Pepin's best but not as well known cigars, contact the Cigar King and try a Habana Leon. Every one makes me smile.

Yep. Love the Soul as well. I have some vintage boxes of the Leons including the A. Killer sticks. I keep boxes of the Blues. You should have fun trying these.

Miles to go before I sleep ...
If you like pepper then that's probably a good sampler. Heck, if you're just starting out and still trying to figure out what you do and don't like it's still probably a good sampler.

I didn't need a sampler to figure out that I don't care for the typical Pepin blend. The only Pepin blends I've had to date are the Tat Havana, Tat La Riq, DP Black Label & La Aroma de Cuba (new blend).
The La Riq is a good cigar ... flat out! (but i like sweeter cigars)
The Tat Havana was a good cigar but too peppery for me.
The DP Black Label and La Aroma were both way too peppery for me and just "ok" in every other aspect.

I guess I can't pass judgement completely no Pepin stuff since I haven't had a My Father or a DP Blue Label ... but I'm not really in any rush to try them with sticks like the VSG out there to keep me busy.
Although I will say that I'm mildly curious about DP's San Cristobal SG blend ... i'm a sucker for anything sungrown though.

I exchange a bit with Senor Garcia on Facebook. He loves his Vegas Cubanas as do I. He also mentions the Blacks (CC) quite often. His morning ritual with cuban coffee.
