When I was in the Military I was lucky enough to be a part of the Honor Guard as well. Some peoplle do not understand the folding of the flag and what it represents and so to remember thoes that have fallen I thought I'd post this so others would know the meaning of a "Flag Draped Coffin"

I work at a veterans home and we put flags over the deceased. It's unfortunate though that some people just want to take the flag off and roll it up. I always find someone to help me fold it.

It's sad that over the last 50 years the general population has not been taught more about flag etiquette.

Thank you for this. I have my Dad's flag folded in a display box in my den. Remember...

Speaking of the American Flag

I competed in Professional Rodeo for many years, one of the things I love about Rodeo is the opening ceremonies and how patriotic the cowboys and fans of rodeo are.

I have probably competed in over 150 rodeos and every one had a patriotic opening. The cowboys are usually behind the chutes when the opening ceremony begin, saddling a horse, picking out which rope they want to use or looking over the bull they drew up and no matter what we were doing. every last one of us always stopped and took off their cowboy hat, when it came time to honor the flag. God help you if you walked through those cowboys during that time and did not honor that flag. It was considered beyond disrespectful and might earn you a cowboy a$$kicking. Even a lone cowboy who could not be seen would do the same, not for fear of an a$$kicking but because he wanted to.

Here is just one example of the beginning of a small town rodeo opening ceremony somewhere in the good old USA

Nice thanks for that Ciggy. I'll never forget my grandfathers funeral and the flag ceremony it was very moving for me. To have the full reason makes it that much more special
