So I thought I had a solid idea of buying an outdoor patio heater and putting it on my covered back deck. Ordered it up and long story short, it's too tall. As of now I'm improvising and put it in the back yard off to the side of the deck. It's not working out horribly, out here now comfortably in a hoodie and it's 34° out.

My other option is to see if I can take it to a shop and have them cut the top pipe down about 18" or drill out the hole spots on the bottom section of pipe to make it shorter

Do you have any pallets you could stack under your chair? Could be a redneck smoking throne. It'd be easier than cutting your heater.

Or you could always just stand. That'd get you about 18" closer... :)

Standing definitely helps. But I have to keep turning like a rotisserie to stay warm all the way around. #firstworldproblems

I think he's saying it is too tall to fit under his covered porch.

@egledhill ACE sells a table top version for around $65. That's the one I have. Screwed some aluminum metal flashing to the top to make sort of a half lamp shade to deflect the heat going out the back, back towards me. Works great.

I saw the small table top one, I just didn't think it would throw enough heat out.

was thinking of just craigslisting the big one if I don't cut the pipe and getting the double burner version of the one @sweemzander just put up

I went with that since I was looking for more if a directional heat element. Plus, $28 bucks was an easy choice
