So, the wife got laid off today. She is a wreck.

Nancy has been working with the local school district for 6 years as a "special needs" teacher (I guess aid). She worked with kids with mental and physical set backs like blindness, downes syndrome, and autism. She loved her job and really loved these kids. We went through this once before a couple years back and it was tough. She ended up being requested back the last time because the parents were so upset that she was let go. She was even noticed by the schoool board for the caring and effort that she provides.

Well, based on the reductions taking place almost everywhere, she found out a few hours ago that she would be laid off. So, she is a mess once again. I keep telling her that all will work out, which I hope it does. She is a Union member and seniority rules. She is just upset that she will not be with "her" kids at this particular school. Also, she may not end up with a position. All depends on who bumps who.

So, please say a prayer for her and the kids.

Thanks for listening.

Man.... Sorry she has to go through that. The ones who ultimately suffer, is those kids.

It's pretty sad with all the money thrown around by city officials, that they can't find a way to keep the teachers near the top. It's a very thankless, and horribly undervalued position.

Prayers are being sent man....

Sad that in tough economic times it seems that the first to pay are good people doing great deeds. I always say when it comes to the education system administrators should take the blunt of the blow not teachers and the kids that depend on them. I know it will work out. there is always a place for people with a passion for what they do

keep her chin up scottie. it takes a special kind of person to do the work she does. it may be rough for a bit, but i bet they'll have to come back around. cuts like that are never popluar and once the parents and the rest of the public find out there may well be some minds changed. prayers and best thoughts your all's way.

Very sorry for your Mrs as well. I know she'll be fine. I've been able to meet quite a few of the special needs teachers thru the firedept. They are very special people (teachers) indeed. The love they have for the kids is unreal. Tell here we all are backing her Scott.

Man, it's always hard when this happens. It takes a huge effort to win the kids over and their trust. Can't think of the void these kids are going to face after your Mrs leaving. My prayers and thoughts are with them and your wife.

Sorry to hear about the wife's job, Scott.

My wife's a teacher too and has been through that process several times. So I know it's not much fun for either of you. Glad to hear she has seniority so should have a better chance of a job.

Strange that they should do it in the middle of a school year.

That's messed up, sorry to hear it. Words can sound empty at times like these but a simple hug can speak volumes. Give her hugs, lotsa hugs.
