I work in the 6th Largest School District in the US. It is happening everywhere. And it effects those who need it most. Test scores and union demands are driving the education system... not student achievement or educational relevance. The teacher's union here is demanding a 10% raise in this economy...and the old guard that runs the union and is driving these demands.. the same ones who don't know what a podcast or a tweet is.... are trying to educate our kids..... scary....

I hate hearing about stuff like this... your wife sounds like a saint and her attitude will land her in a better place.

You know, I love this place. It really means "family" to me. I can't thank you all enough for your support. Nancy is a TRUE SAINT and cares so deeply for all of the kids lives she touches. What is hurting her mostly is that the women ahead of her has no substance for these children. She is looking for a paycheck and that's it. Nancy's so nervous that these kids won't get what they need and deserve.

Thanks again and bless you all.

Sorry about your wife's recent job situation. Sometimes these issues allow other opportunities to present themselves.

With her experience, support from local parents and love for kids, it sounds like she should investigate opening her own special needs center.

Sorry to hear that man. My wife is a Speech Therapist that works with young kids including many children with autism and other disabilities your wife works with. I hold a special place in my heart for people that care for these kids, so I wish you and your wife well. I also work in a non-profit and work daily with schools and school districts in Washington State and I have seen/known of many lay offs, it is very sad.

Good luck to you and I know it will turn around!

and not to make too much light of the situation, but to do what she does AND put up with you..... there has got to be a higher rank than saint!!!!
and i know her first concern is the kids, so something good, or better, is in store for her.

Sorry to hear that Hendy. I'm sure it's very difficult. I've been there for the last 5 months and the wife might be heading there also with her company doing a huge lay off in a month. It sucks! I hope things get better for you guys.

Teachers like her are worth their weight in gold,,,they provide more meaning in one day than most people do in a year. She and your family will be in my thoughts for good things,,,keep the faith.
