I would love to give that a shot one day. For some reason, the thought behind the curing process excites me the most. What's your plan?

There are several websites that provide information on harvesting, curing, fermenting, etc... Im just "winging it" and following the advice/directions provided from a few sites..

http://theoldfirm.hubpages.com/hub/Tobacco-Growing-and-Curing-at-Home

https://www.leafonly.com/tobacco-harvesting-curing-fermenting.php?classurl=tobacco_leaf_harvesting_curing_and_fermenting

http://www.coffinails.com/curing_tobacco.html

while it would be cool to actually be able to smoke the tobacco.. I really dont have any plans to do that.. I have never rolled... I am not going to have a whole lot of tobacco (only planning on growing 4-6 plants tops).. and Ive only got two varieties of seed to toy with..

Im mostly just "playing" around.. and seeing what happens..

not sure how Ive managed to keep them alive for an entire month at this point (I DO NOT have a green thumb).. but.. so far so good.. it looks like all of the plants are healthy and are doing well...

Hopefully theyll make it another 6 weeks inside.. and then it will be time to move them out and see if they can make it in the garden...

How long ago did they sprout?

the first few plants peeked above the surface of the soil about 2 weeks ago...
to be such a big plant at maturity (supposedly the Habano 2000 plants will get up to 6' tall ).. they sure start out tiny.. the seeds are incredibly small (think mustard seed).. and they initially grow super slow.. and are extremely fragile..

I think if I can get them to about 8 weeks old in the indoor greenhouse.. we'll be past the last frost of the year.. and they'll be hearty enough to transplant outside..

I never got that far last year... the last two times I tried this.. I got them to about 6 weeks after sprouting.. and they just up and died on me.. I have no idea why...

Well make sure to expose them to the outside slowly. Partial morning/evening sunlight for the first day (few hours) then a little longer and then set them where they will be planted for a few hours. Direct transplanting can kill them.

A couple of BOTL sent me to FairTradeTobacco.com The curing does seem exciting. Not sure how to do on a small scale. I remember my uncle's tobacco barns. Well actually he rented the land and I believe the barns were all ready built when he got there. I mentioned something to a BOTL about wanting to give something a go. He sent me six different seeds and lots of each. I'll be glad to share. I hope to grab something to start them in, in the next day or two. Six weeks inside and start moving them out. If I get two of each to live...well I might try to make some pipe baccy even tho some of these are probably wrapper leaves. @3/5King I was reading a little about the moving process. You sound experienced. Ever grow any?
