Mostly pipes
Hello all. Greetings from Brampton, Ontario. That's just outside of Toronto.
I'm a 47 yo high school teacher. My subjects are physics, junior science and math. Been at it for 20 years now and will probably make it another 10 before throwing in the towel.
Primarily a pipe collector, I bought my first pipe when I was 15 or so. Tried it with Amphora Brown. Thought it was yucky and threw the works in the garbage. Tried again when I was 17 and kept with it. For the previous 29 years, every now & then I would buy a cigar and give it a try. I never did have a good experience so always went back to the pipe.
Last year I noticed that the cigar industry had changed (it took 9 years to notice) with the advent of the smaller boutique houses. This piqued my interest so I decided to investigate. So for about a year I have been reading online, listening to podcasts and buying cigars.
I'm not smoking much at all now. Just collecting and waiting for better weather. My partner (of the girlfriend variety) and I own a summer house where I plan to spend time on the porch creating smoke, reading and quenching my thirst. Otherwise I smoke in the car. Since my drive is only about 45 mins each way, cigars are difficult to fit in timewise so I usually smoke a pipe when driving as I can load the pipe appropriately.
I collect pipes that catch my eye with little focus. The collection hovers around 35 pipes and I try to sell one when I buy one. Lately there have been a lot of Ser Jacopo pipes and Savinellis. I have a lot of tins that have been aging up to 12 years now. Mostly VA or VaPer blends with some burly mixtures thrown in. Also some latakia blends from way back before I decided I didn't like them. I'll be holding on to it all.
In addition to collecting pipes I have been involved in performance driving but I gave that up to focus upon flying. All my life I had wanted to fly. Once I realised I could somewhat afford it, I began taking flying lessons. I now have a private pilots license and am working towards the commercial license. This is just to provide a focus to the pastime - who would hire a 47 yo low time pilot?
Anyway, that's me.
