PTSD was invented as a coverall for diagnosing soldiers' psychiatric conditions. Why? Because it's cheaper. Having one diagnosis prevents spending on research for other conditions and prevents spending on sending soldiers to specialists for the condition that they are actually suffering from.
Using this method obviously has its flaws, it allows people to take advantage of the situation. If the soldiers that are looking for a way out and want to abuse the system take this as a way out, I'm for it. They're probably not the caliber of people that I'd want to depend on with my life anyways.
I do not doubt that there are people suffering from survivors guilt, and other psychiatric conditions, but PTSD is not a proper diagnosis. They prescribe the same meds to people diagnosed with PTSD as they do the "Desperate Housewives."
I have to agree with tobii3, it's a blunt and unpleasant statement, but the truth isn't always pretty.
