Ahhh, the joys of home-ownership. I have had similar ongoing battles with my neighbor for the past 12 years. I once carefully trimmed back a row of straggly giant pines along our common lot line where the trunk was on their lot but almost half of the tree overhang onto my yard and much of my roof. I thought I was doing a good thing but the wife came over and screamed at me for cutting back her trees and taking away her 'shade'. After about 10 minutes of her verbal abuse, I simply said nothing, called my tree guy and had him come over the next day and cut every single overhanging branch off of every single pine tree - about 7-8 trees in all, about 60-70 feet high.
She has not spoken to me since and my life has never been better - all thanks to having a survey and knowing my rights.
