Not to offend anyone but if I was to become a member of a forum it would be to interact with other members and perhaps have my curiosities answered. You don't need to sign up to lurk and you have access to pretty much the whole site other than a few choice sections. Signing up doesn't make you an active member interacting does.

I'm not saying lurking is a bad thing a lot of members here initially lurk for a short while and then decide to introduce themselves.
Yes, but that's you. Everyone joins up for their own reasons. I agree with you that interacting makes you an active member and not just signing up, but what is the big deal if someone signs up for membership and doesn't post? I'm not trying to offend anyone either, I just don't see why this is an issue. Everyone has their reasons for doing things. I certainly agree with Wade that we should encourage people to post, but if they choose not to, that's ok too. At least that's my opinion FWIW.

I'm a member of a few boards where I'll only post once or twice a month. Everyone has their reasons, like Kevin said.
