To ligero, or not to ligero? That is the question

No doubt that the proportion of strength to flavor is higher for ligeros, but make no mistake, ligero can have a boatload of flavor. Some varietals & growing regions more so than others. It doesn't always burn well, and working around that can be challenging and require some compromises when using a lot of it.

Love it. Love the T110, cain F robusto, CAO LX2. Not all the time, but more often than not when I want to smoke I want to know I'm smoking something powerful.

Depends on the leaf. The T110 is delicious. I think the MoW Ruination, LX2, and Cain F, and Oliva V ain't too shabby either.

Note: I didn't get much flavor out of ligero-laden (or any full-bodied sticks, really) until I'd been smoking regularly for a while. It takes time for your palate to adapt to be able to get much out of full-bodied cigars.

Personally I found the LFD DL to have that "tastes like dirt" characteristic that people often attribute to the Cain's.

I wasn't a big fan.


I would argue that ligero isn't "the most flavourful", it just has the highest nicotine kick.

So many cigars seem like they would have been medium or medium-full, but the blenders threw in some extra ligero just to make them full-strength.

Not a fan of 100% ligero sticks. Most full bodied blends that I enjoy have the right amount for the proper strength, like padron 26's, tat browns. Ligero also provides a different mouthfeel than cigars without it, probably because the leaf is much more oily. The smoke is much richer and fuller.

i wish this fad of stronger and stronger cigars would just go away. too many people out there seem to think that unless you are smoking a cigar that will put you down you arent really smoking.

I prefer there to be a good bit of ligero for without power a cigar has to be overly complex for me.

Ligero should be used in moderation, there are very few cigars that have pulled off using loads of Ligero and Cain is definetly not one of them. LFD is the king of big Ligero blends that actually work.
