OK y'all, I know I don't really know good bourbon yet but I am enjoying the hell out of this one. Took time to really enjoy this pour. Vanilla, pecan pie, desserty goodness...and the nose is just pure caramel candy. Reminds me so much of the dark rums I love as the flavors are super similar. Highly recommend...and the price can't be beat. Not sure about availability outside of Texas though.

Agree with @gurgalunas that OF 1920 is a solid choice. WT Rare Breed is popular, I tried it last week for the first time and it's not for me. I do like the Russell varieties from WT though.

Had a Manhattan at Capitol Grille last night that combined Woodford Double Oaked and Woodford Rye. It was ungood.

So at bistro 90 I went up and talked to the bartender and told him im a bourbon drinker (a newer one at that) and how I normally prefer my bourbon with a few ice cubes or a single large cube. I told him i generally like to enjoy bourbon at restaurants in a cocktail and generally do a old fashioned or a Manhattan. He told me the current barrel aged cocktail wasn’t his favorite but he said he really likes their prohibition cocktail which he said was very different and normally made with knob creek and lemoncello but he said he had a single barrel knob creek he could use and would recommend so that’s what I went with. His description and the drink were a little off but it was good, you could still taste the notes of the bourbon but it was more on the back end.E2A84A77-E096-4A0C-9029-5F3E1902E0F7.jpeg

Weekly update as per usual. Actually this was over the course of 2 days

Tom I know you’ll appreciate this one. Actually this was probably my favorite Booker’s pour to date.

This one was quite tasty.

Always pleasing and easily my 2nd favorite Weller aside from 12 Year & William Larue

Notes of (I kid you not) marinara

This was a potent flavor bomb. Never seen or heard of it before.

Store Pick. It’s been 4 or 5 years since I’ve had Wathens and it did not disappoint. Still has that unique club soda dry finish

Near identical Willetts, only separated by 0.4 Proof.

nose brown sugar and cherry , alcohol burn Palate more cherry, barrel spice and drying to the mouth. Couple drops of water kills the cherry, accentuates the barrel notes makes it a bit less drying. Interesting pour but I do prefer it proofed down a bit allowing the sweetness to move forward

Always reminds me of Red Hots cinnamon candy.

Nose tells you right away it's a rye. very herbal and prominent raw rye. Kind of one dimensional on palate. touch of water brings forth the sweetness, Letting the whiskey rest in the glass mellows the rye spice and softens the pour.
