Home of my Alma Mater!
I was just in Ohio last month actually, there and Iowa, Indiana & West Virginia on a much needed trip. Got to see the Field of Dreams and attend the Iowa State Fair among many other awesome places.Great herf weekend in Ohio, tried so many bourbons and ryes I had not tried before. Off the top of my head:
O.K.I.
Peerless Rye SiB
Good Times Honey finished Rye
NULU
Jack Daniels SBBP Rye
'70s Old Grandad
'70s Maker's Mark
So many others I can't remember...but the cream of this crop:
Actually had 3 pours of the WLW thanks to a generous friend. It was probably the best bourbon I've tasted this year, and maybe ever.
Curious about the Penelope, any other thoughts Matt?Damn this one was potent and very nuanced.
I think you’d like it. It drinks higher then the stamped proof I thought. It was like a punch to the face, but in a strangely good way haha.Curious about the Penelope, any other thoughts Matt?
Glad to see Booker’s is still wetting your whistle! I had a Batch from 2015 semi-recently that absolutely blew me away. I’ve gravitated away from Booker’s mostly, but mainly due to budgetary reasons. A guy at my lounge recently brought in Teresa’s Batch, which I found very coincidental, as that was the last bottle I owned. Is that still high on your ever-growing list?Matt @BourbonBinder , the dusties both had a wonderful viscosity and just coated the palate. Not much heat but that mouth feel that was almost syrupy and just delicious.
Environment means so much for bourbon and cigars for me, so hard to compare the WLW samples from memory. I will say that both were probably amongst the top 5 bourbons I have ever had.
Last night I opened Booker's Oven Buster for the first time to say an unofficial goodbye to summer. It was really good after a porterhouse dinner and with a Punch Mantua, but probably not in my top 10 Booker's batches.
Elated to hear that Teresa’s is still so high on your list after all this time.@BourbonBinder Matt, I still have Teresa's high on my list, might have slipped out of my Top 5 Booker's but defintiely in the top 7 or 8. Do you know which 2015 you had? I've opened 4 of the 6 batches and probably like Maw Maw the best...still haven't opened Big Man Small Batch and Center Cut.
Last night had a few full proof pours. By the time I got to the Booker's Toogie's Invitation, the pour was small and the effects were big. Bed right after that.
Love everything from 1792 except small batch. Haven’t tried the wheat though.Keeping up with my usual delayed fashion here are some whiskies I’ve enjoyed these past weeks since I last posted
Better then Sweet Wheat by a mile
Better then Single Barrel by half a mile lol
Definitely didn’t suck like I thought it might
Not usually my style but this one was interesting
Damn this one was potent and very nuanced.
I’ve seen it priced at 99 and $140...In today’s ridiculousness i happened upon this on the shelf of a new spot by me. Who in their right mind would ever pay this price?
