- Glenfarclas 25yr (pretty cheap considering how much most 25yrs go for)

Peated
- Ardbeg Dark Cove - just came out (if you have not tried any Ardbeg's I highly suggest them in general)
- I am also a big fan of Bowmore, though their prices have gone up over the years.
- Laphroaig & Lagavulin are great, but the problem is their selections range from $50-130, but then jump to $300 plus - not much in-between

Hope that helps some - looking for distillates from your birth year can be tough (& pricey!) since there are so many unique & independant bottlings of random stuff here and there

My first steps into the scotch world. Never even had a sip before. I had considered trying it, so at the HBH in April I asked my personal authority on all things brown liquor, @Tennessee Dave, what a newb should try. Today, I was out and picked up a bottle of the recommended Balvenie 14. Now I see that just today he posts that he doesn't much care for it. You're killing me here, Dave!

Nothing wrong with that one at all. In fact it is an excellent intro to scotch just doesn't have the flavor profile I have come to enjoy in scotch. The rum cask makes it a really good transition from bourbon to scotch. BTW I have a new bottle open and having a dram right now. Good with omelette.

I definitely noticed the rum notes on the end. Especially compared to some McCallan 12 that I tried at a buddy's house on Saturday. I haven't developed an opinion yet, so I'll keep at it. Way different than bourbon.

I've died and gone to heaven. Aberlour 17 Distillery Reserve and 25 Distillery Reserve. Both very lovely, both VERY different.

The wife, who hates scotch, likes the 25. I'm going to be poor.

Benromach (not sure which) and Cohiba Siglo VI

We are in the Benromach Suite at the Dowans Hotel, and the scotch was a welcome present left in the room.

If you ever make it to Scotch Mecca, I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

Close to Aberlour (obv), Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Balvenie and scores of others.
