How are those smoking Tom? I gifted one to one of the wife's co-workers and haven't smoked one myself yet.
Very nice, I was expecting it to be very mild but it had a good amount of flavor to it. Definitely had a bit of saltiness and a perfect burn and it was damn windy out.

I'm on my 3rd cigar of the evening, a RyJ Tubos #2. The first was a Fonseca Invictos, and after that was a PAM Torpedo.

Right now I'm drinking a Russian Imperial Stout from the North Coast Brewery.

The wife and I just came back in from the deck after enjoying a couple VSG Illusions that Eric_f gifted me a while back.

Yeah, that's right...I said enjoyed.

Aside from the dry ash-mouth affect I experience with all NCs it was enjoyable. VSGs have such a unique peppery-cedar scent.

VSGs a good stick. Not sure about that dry ash mouth thing but I can relate to the peppery-cedar scent

Yeah, I get this real dry ashy taste along with a metallic taste from almost all NCs. The wife even commented on it. This is one of the reasons I prefer Cubans, they seem so much 'cleaner' on the palette.

Welcome to BOTL Mister Mike!

Todd, I understand what you are saying. Cubans are cleaner and I can tend to nub them while NCs tend to get harsh.

Why is that? What makes the difference? No one has ever been able to tell me...I notice a difference, but don't understand it...

I'm not sure what the difference is. I am going to guess blindly and say the soil characteristics that bring themselves into the tobacco.
