LHC Core boxpress. My friend and I both got these in sampler packs. He didnt get past the first inch before leaving it for dead. Looking past his experience I decided to give it a try tonight. I had an LHC Oscuro Fuerte within the past week that I really enjoyed. I dont have a refined pallete by any means, so bare with me.
Toasting the foot and getting this beast going wasn't as off-putting as I halfway expected it to be. Though there wasn't any hint of a sweet aroma, it wasn't foul. I have to side with Chris, the first inch is not really representative of what the rest of this stick has to offer.
Settling into the first third, I had to bring this puppy inside and retire to the comfy couch. But not before pouring a nice blended over the rocks. Getting past the first inch the Core shows what its really all about. Nice draws of rich creamy smoke that on the finish leaves a nice zing on the toungue. I'd say its spicy, but its more like what you get on the aftertaste of candied ginger.
Past the first third and the Core really comes alive. The spice is a bit more pronounced, and it gives hints of a bittersweetness. Imagining what a Mayan hot chcocolate would taste like, though I've never had one, is what comes to mind.
It burned pretty well with only a couple corrections with the torch and held a solid ash. Overall I enjoyed it. The Core wasn't a full on pepper stick, but did give plenty of spice with a complex and creamy smoke. Glad I got them in a sampler and have a couple more left to see if I like another one in the future.
