Personally I'm in the buy a sampler group. If you can get one with smaller PC type stuff (because it's cheaper and great size with a coffee etc.,) and one with larger formats you'll get a good idea of what's going on. I tend to smoke what I buy at this point in life, the argument is they are rolled to be smoked so get the flavor profile the roller wanted you to have, but there is also an argument for aging them.
Also you didn't mention what format you actually enjoy, long and skinny, short and fat, clearly that will make a difference as well, smoke what you like.
