I've enjoyed some Viaje's and some were just ok. To me the brand for the most part seemed like a novelty. I know there are some who like and chase them, but it seemed most releases sold out so quick it wasn't worth the trouble.

I have probably smoked 10 Viaje's and have 30 in my humi. I will smoke them in due time but I don't see myself chasing after them.

Was kindly bombed with some Viajes that I am looking forward to trying. My head has already been spinning since starting smoking trying to catch up on all the cigars that had come out in the past and are currently popping up all over. Busy enough just trying to figure out what I like, I dont think I will start this Viaje journey.

Viaje national sales manager and Andre.
SM:Ok 2011s Fiscal report is finished.
AF:How did we do?
SM: Well some good some not so good.
AF: Well the bad first of course.
SM: The bad is all of our regular lines sat and there were no reorders.
AF: And the good????
SM: All of our LE lines flew off the shelf!
AF: Well that settles that then.
SM: How's that??????
AF: Everything is now LE..... Problem solved!
Thank you, thank you.
Please tip your waiter kindly on the way out!

Definitely an interesting strategy. Lower overhead, 20 releases a year, sell out in a day. Gross $2-5MM in sales.

Talk to your local Viaje retailer. It's not like they were regularly available throughout the year from Viaje. Over the past two years, Viaje's regular line has been backordered for the vast majority of the time.

This wasn't much of a change in terms of structure, makes a great headline though.

During his presentation at the Big Smoke seminars in November, Andre actually said that the original concept for the brand was to be entirely "Small Batch", and let's be honest... the limited releases are the only Viaje smokes anyone jumps for anyway.

Backordered? Most of the retailers I know that carry Viaje STILL have the regular lines, as they don't move. Would bet that some of the cigars are still from original orders.

Thanks for the leads guys. I am out in Worcester so its the mid-point for a lot of those shops. I hope to be heading up to Federal in the near future and may pick up some just to try. I appreciate all the help as always!

I definitely do not care about the "regular lines"... They didn't set well with me at all. Maybe making them in less quanity will help him improve them.

I'm not a chaser either... I get my hands on a few, but it's not like I wait to pounce on anything Andre makes. To be fair... I have enjoyed a lot of his cigars

Where are you in MA Jay? John Brandt at Old Firehouse is always well stocked with Viajes. And Paul at Mr J's Havana shop in West Warwick always has a lot of Viaje around as well. Or if youre closer to NH like somebody already said Federal stocks Viaje and so does Castros Back Room in Nashua.

As for him saying everything is now "Small Batch". Im not sure how I really feel about that. Especially when taking a cigar that was regular production and going a step backwards in production. When I think of Small Batch I think of cigars that are rolled in limited quantities because of a lack of tobacco that is used to create that blend. At this point I think its pretty hard for Andre to convince everyone that a lack of tobacco is the reason he is releasing 50 LE's a year. But I guess technically if you want to take the definition of small batch as literal as possible then I suppose Viaje fits the bill.
Old fire house is a great cigar & pipe store. All the newer blends with no mass produced crap. John's store also has a great Olde World feel to it.
I'm lucky that I only live 15 min away.

I have heard they are a great shop. I need to sneak down there. Federal are my boys though, they are the place I like to go to for the drive (and price). I have been to Mr. J Havana shop as well and Paul was great to talk with!

it's a lot easier to love a manufacturer if they roll out more regular releases than LE's, y'know? do some work at the ground level so you have somewhere to stand, so to speak.

Agree 100% buddy. I don't believe in LE... my preference, build long lasting brands that will be around for years. Maybe once a year, throw in a LE, but a real limited edition.

By real I mean, if we happen to come across a really nice wrapper of filler material that's in limited qty's, go ahead and put it to good use.
