The red witch I believe and the ghost weren't bad for the price. But for that same price there are a lot of other cigars I like more. That's my problem with Gurkha, for each of their sticks there is a cheaper or same price stick I like more. But as they said smoke what you like. I got a feeling if you stay around here what you like won't be gurkha

This response would be different if he was asking about an Undercrown.

I was kidding. I think it's bs when we say that. If we really believed that, we wouldn't be coming on here to learn about other smokes or ask any questions about nicer sticks, etc.

Almost every one of us who has been smoking for a long time will agree that you shouldn't smoke crap cigars that you paid more for than good cigars and we would try to stop people from paying good money for crappy cigars.

He already said he smoked a couple Gurkhas and didn't like them. Why encourage someone to piss away money on crap? He's new to the hobby and is open to suggestions so why not steer him to the good stuff?
I'm not encouraging anyone to to smoke anything. I'm just not shitting on his question telling him what ever he asked about was a pile of shit. There's a ton of people here who were smoking CI sticks not too long ago and now are self professed cigar snobs. There are some guys here who still smoke catalog cigars but that doesn't make them any less of a cigar smoker.

Since there's not a single suggestion yet.

Engine2, I'm a big Tatuaje fan. The Seleccion de Cazador, also know as, the Brown Label is a good place to start with that brand. Crowned Heads' Headley Grange was one of the cigars that got me hooked on "better" cigars. Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label and Series JJ are also very nice cigars to try. EP Carrillo makes a tasty cigar too, the new Short Run, Cardinal maduro to name a few. All of these can be picked up on the cheap on Cigar Bid, the place some affectionately call "The Devils Site". There are a ton of others too but at the end of the day smoke what you like and fuck what anyone else thinks.

I suggested some gurkhas I actually like since that was the brand he asked about. But I second crowned heads and tatuaje. I love just about all their stuff. But as I said there are so many smokes out there. Just keep trying. Good or bad you will learn what you like. I smoked many cigars I thought I liked before I smoked a better one. And everyone is different.

ok Engine2 here it goes.....For $5-$10 range Tatuaje, L'telier, Don Pepin, some of the MyFather lines are really good. Since I am a dark wrapper whore, If I may suggest the Don Pepin JJ Maduro, La Aroma De Cuba (LADC) Robusto (red foot band) are really nice smokes. The My Father Le Bijou short robusto is a phenominal cigar for $5-$6. The Crowned Heads Le Careme, Crowned Heads Four Kicks Black Belt Buckle (Famous exclusive). If a cheap bundle cigar is what you are looking for there are a plenty that are really good. For example and not limited to: Perdomo Fresco Maduro, El Suelo, Trocadero. Cheap short fill but REALLY tasty are the La Vieja habano maduro coronas by Drew Estate. You can get them for about $2/stick. All these cigars would be what price range you would buy a Gurkha for but infinitely better. You can decide for yourself.

If you have any questions just pm me. We're Long Island neighbors.

Brickhouse. Won't break the bank but a good smoke. Haven't had one I didn't like. Have not tried Gurka. Just the name alone reminds me of tossing my cookies.

Sounds like a little LI herf is in order soon when you have some time?? I need to get a free minute and go take Frank shopping at Matador's. I gave him a few suggestions and did a little hand to hand combat and tossed him a Le Careme and a Tatuaje. Just showing a little BOTL love :cigar:

Absolutely. There are a ton of LI BOTL's
I could tag them all that might want to come hang out. Maybe when Rob @OldSkoolTarHeel comes back to NY we can all get together with him before he leaves us.

I'm good for Matador's in Massapequa or Hauppauge. Whatever works for everyone that's somewhat half way and that most (or all) of us can attend.

Regarding the Black Ops, I've 2 of them - the first was very nice, great burn, easy draw and lots of smoke. The 2nd one was harsh, and hard to draw. As a noobie, I went for a lot of the CI stuff at $2-3/stick - including Gurkha. But, they've been very uneven in terms of burns and harshness. I've moved on from the brand. Check out Small Batch.

I tried a couple because I have a tight budget, but like to smoke nearly everyday. Don't do it. I had a Maduro and a Habano. For a little more go for the Ramon Bueso Genesis line. Also the Nica Libre is much better and is roughly the same price.

You could also look in to the Diesel line of cigars. CI will occasionally run them at $20 off on the box.

If you can rest them a couple of months JR Cigars have the Leccia Black on sale right now for about $60 -$70 a box. I also like JR's Villainy coronas (fish hooks) but they need a little rest.
