A huge banner out front that reads: "Free Tats!"

Seriously, most things I'd want have been covered. A basic must, though: a powerful air scrubber. Nothing ruins a good smoke for me faster than coughing on too much smoke from everyone else.

having worked in multiple sides of the cigar industry, from general manager of a b&m, to marketing of a cigar label, to distribution and logistics, to plain old customer. there is always something that customers will want a cigar shop to be in a personal world, but there are certain things all successful cigar shops should and do have.

a knowledgeable, personable, and welcoming staff. you can finds chairs, cigars, tv's, and shiny things many places, but a truly welcoming and knowledgeable staff is hard to find...it's why we are here on botl, for fellowship of knowledge on common ground. a cigar shop needs someone to introduce those macanudo's to the uniformed, and someone to gossip the latest industry hype to the regulars. without this person you will have just another shop with chairs and tv.

I have to admit Ben I'm a little jelous. I would love to have done something like that. I am hoping to have the man cave done by mid June so I will post pics of my idea of a cigar lovers getaway. Atleast it's the closest thing I could come to having my own shop. I think if you have wonderfull, knowledgable people surrounding you and no arsholes the warmth of the establshment would be enough for me.

Remember,

The higher end you go, the more your cigars will sell for. The
one gripe I hear the most is, b&m prices are way to high.

Make it simple, comfortable with a good staff.

If budget and available space allowed, I'd do separate lounges and provide wi-fi, along with the already mentioned staples of good cigar selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Like someone mentioned above, some guests want to have a conversation, some want to watch TV or video, others want to just sit, have a cigar, maybe a drink, and chill (me).

A couple of local B&Ms I frequent (I have to say I'm fortunate to live in an area with abundant access to a hundred B&Ms) have all of that, except the separate lounges. A couple of them have movie night, but when they pop in a DVD, the place all but empties, the scowls come from those trying to watch the movie while you're still telling the lie you started a few minutes ago... So, yeah - separate lounges if possible.

Guys, these are absolutely awesome!!! Thank you for the advice. Keep em' comin'. Oh, and the exotic car thing, well, my thought is, it adds to the experience...plus I would love to come to work everyday and see one or two just kickin it there. Just a pie in the sky idea. Like I said, I don't care how outlandish it may be, the only bad idea is one not mentioned... :)
