I started planning for retirement the day I finished school, High school that is. I knew I didnt want to work all my life and be in my 60s and still having to work to live. My father worked all his life for one thing or another. A close friend of mine was working on his second retirement by the age of 38, first the Air Force then Refinery. One has to plan their own retirement because if you leave it up to the goverment you will not have a penny to yourself not to mention medical benefits etc etc... Hell, Ive gone as far as to already have my funeral services paid for not that I will need it any time soon but I sure as hell dont want my kids having to worry about them things when Im gone. Just the way I was taught when I was in me teens.

I would love to retire from the corporate world by 48.. I know that I will go stir crazy so I will dabble in something, i just cant keep myself busy and challenged and i am happier when I am challenged and busy...

I have been planning for retirement since i graduated as well.. as you said if you dont then you are screwed.. By the time i hit SS age it wont be there anymore.

I haven't really started working yet, let alone thought about retiring! I think I'd rather have a job I liked for a very long time than take on something for a lot of money, then retire earlier. I imagine a decision like that isn't too far down the line for me.

I was ready to retire at 16.

In my mind retirement doesn't mean not working altogether but working at something that is fun and you would do for free.

There is no way I would/could ever get bored.

I am that guy from Office Space that if I had a milliion dollars I would do NOTHING.

10 million dollars.

Why retire though?? Won't you get bored?
Heck no. There are not enough hours in the day for me now and work gets in the way of life. . .:hysterica ~5 more years, assuming the little lady will continue to support me in the style to which I want to be accustomed. . .:stretchgr
