I never had as much luck with pipes with stingers, tended to just gurgle more than those without
I have a 1940's Kaywoodie Supergrain with stinger in tact that was gifted to me. It has always been a great smoker. I have since cleaned up one estate with stinger intact. I have only smoked it once with some PA so can't give an opinion, but I can say the stinger was a PITA to clean.

One of the reasons I like, you can just unscrew and run pipe cleaner in shank and I blow out stem into a paper towel and keep smoking. I just listen to my pipes and do as they want. I enjoy them more then some other pipes I own. They have small draw hole in stem and hard to pass cleaner. Bent stems small holes the worse. Bent cleaner hard to use once it kinks. So for me I enjoy stingers on the screw in ones anyway. My vintage Savoy smokes well almost always. Think it is one of 2 that are push in all other Stinger are screw in.
