No this shouldn't be in the bourbon thread, not that kind of tipping over.

Taco place, 7 - 2 bite tacos and 2 diet cokes. Bill was $42 before tax, total came to $46,40. We saw the server to get our diet coke order, when he delivered the cokes and took or meal order, when he delivered the food and when he brought the bill. Minimal interaction. I put down $60 in cash for the bill, first thing he said was "keep the change?" I thought it odd that I would have to ask for my change. I gave him $9 as a tip and you would have thought I was stealing from him.

Is 25% standard now?

Thoughts?

I think your tip was appropriate.

I will not add a tip however to pickup a pizza. Or just for someone to do their job.. that shit is getting on my nerves. Might toss my loose change in the jar but don’t ask/expect a tip while doing your regular job.

had a bill similar to yours the other night. I gave 12. However girl brought me out a couple beers and went back for some extra sauce and was just pleasant and I thought she did a good job. Checked on us and that sort of thing

The tipping thing is getting ridiculous. If I am somewhere and I get good service I am usually pretty generous with my tip. If someone makes a sandwich or a coffee for me as part of their job and then put their hand out for my hard earned money from doing my job I will slap it. Something like that I may leave a 10% tip as they really did not do much to earn it. Hell I have had better service in a buffet where they just bring drinks and clean the table but they always made sure my glass had something in it. They get a good tip.

The evening buffet at the casinos is about $120 for two people now. They work hard hauling off crab and shrimp shells and keeping the glasses full but I can't bring myself to tip $25 for someone who is basically bussing tables.

Agreed to all of the above... I am usually around 20% for people who do things to earn the extra.

Of course now here in CA fast food workers are paid a minimum of $20/hr thanks to a new state law. What could possibly go wrong aside from everything?

And I really hate having to put in a tip for my food delivery service people at the time of purchase and not after delivery. How can I tip them when they haven't done what I would be tipping them for yet? And if I pick a zero tip for that reason, I just know the person will pee on my gyro or something...

REALLY?!?! Dudes got some balls to be asking shit like that. I'd have said back, "Give me my change back and you'll find out real quick whether I keep it or not."

My wife was a bartender and she always tips other bartenders $1 per beer. It's unwritten law, so I follow it.

^ bartender always gets a buck or 2 per. That’s different

Been thinking about the buffet at the casino deal. To me a buffet doesn’t deserve the same tip as a standard waitress. Cause I’m serving myself the tip won’t reflect the bill.

especially considering it’s inside a casino. It’s not like you went out of your way to a standard restaurant that’s charging roughly 120$ for a couple to eat. I just see that as something different also

  • Nice Guy Eddie: C'mon, throw in a buck!
  • Mr. Pink: Uh-uh, I don't tip.
  • Nice Guy Eddie: You don't tip?
  • Mr. Pink: No, I don't believe in it.
  • Nice Guy Eddie: You don't believe in tipping?
  • Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit.
  • Mr. Pink: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit.
  • Nice Guy Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip?
  • Mr.Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Haha I love this scene! It's perfect for guys like your server!

I would have laughed and said, "nah." Then just left. That kind of rudeness really deserves another kind of response. I'm too old and have too many responsibilities for that these days.

Eighteen year old me would have said, "if it is a penny short I'm whipping your ass for disrespect."

I think tipping is F'ed up!
We tip a server that brings us a meal or a bartender handing you beer!
But we don't Cops, Firemen, First responders, Caregivers, nurses ect.
My adopted son is a deputy Sheriff. When he told me he makes $22 an hour I was floored. Absolutely ridiculous.
With the crazy stuff he deals with he should be making twice that much at least imho.

We also learned that Madonna is a thorough whore and gets way more than the tip. Great movie.
