Recently came into some funds due to the good graces of the Fantasy Football Gods.....and have at the minimum $360 to blow. Possibly $720 if I win the whole thing this weekend....so I'm doing some planning. PSD4's have consistently been my favorite CC that i've had, although my experience is not near as vast as most here. I'm mostly a Tat, Viaje, LP, Padron, and Fuente guy...hence the reason i'm asking for some advice.

So which of these four would y'all choose?

Partagas Serie D No.5 LE 2008
Partages Serie D LE 2010
Or the good Ol' fashioned PSD4
Partagas 898 Varnished

Also considering the RA German Regional Beli (if I can find em' that is)....maybe these in addition to one of the above. Or would you go with TWO of the above four over the RA and a PSDX ??

Spending money can be difficult sometimes...:scratchhe

The RA German Regional Beli is a great smoke, and should age well...

I just picked up a box of the 05 RA Belis, and they are amazing...But not easy to find a box :(

Complicated question(s)......

Firstly, I sent you a PM so you can find your RA ER Germany... they're available still...

Next... on those three Partagas:

PSD4 from 2007 or 2008 are smoking very well right now and are very readily available out there.

The EL 08 was good... but PSD4 from that year are smoking better right now, anyway, IMHO.

The EL 10s are decent, but definitely need some age to refine (and in an unsolicited opinion, the Monte is the real winner for 2010 ELs anyway).

Given ALL of that (to include the RA)...... if you are going to SMOKE and not COLLECT...... I'd simply go with PSD4 from 2007 or 2008 and still have money left over to explore more regular production CCs, which I think you need to do before climbing intoa regional (albeit a good one) that you won't be able to get again, even if you like it... AND won't really be able to compare it to anything to help you develop your palate for CCs! :stretchgr

Long answer... but I hope that helps..... I'm sure other will share opinions as well.

Cheers! :cbig:

Great advice Jim...and thanks for the PM. I did some quick searches for those RA German Belis, and I fear not only is my CC experience much to juvenile go with those, shopping/searching in a foreign language frustrates the hell out of me:nodlaugh:. If I don't have the patience to search for em', that's a pretty good indication I won't have to patience to age em'..LOL (which I've known long ago about my CC tendencies).

I would grabs the RA Beli's while you can..they are quite special. I would say go Party 898 V's...the 09's are outstanding!..next would be the PSP tubos which are also very good. I personally thought the 09 PSD4's were terrible..maybe that is just me?

Well, you might not, but I would!

Having extra free money does not mean you have to go get some EL or LE expensive smokes especially if you never had them. I suggest trying to buy 5 packs or a few singles of those you might want to buy. If you like them, then pull the trigger for a box. Regular production are less money so you can get more bang for your buck that way.

Very true...but it's not my style to use the $$ to buy a sampler....set the balance aside in a nice little account to save it, and then buy a box of the one I like later. I'll have spent that and then some by the time the next box purchase rolls around....LOL.

That said, I did give similar advice to a good friend last night (almost verbatim: smoking rare is nice, but smoking what you love is better). Sometimes easier to preach, than to practice.

I have decided howevever on at least one box purchase......the PSD4 (year? TBD...hoping either 07, or 08 though, upon the recommendation of one wiser than I).

I can't speak highly enough of the 898v. It has all the characteristic Partagas flavor (one of my favorites) in a lonsdale format (also one of my favorites). They are great young or aged IMO.

I had a bunch of PSD4's last year in Jan, and they didn't wow me. I found they weren't my cup of tea, but the RASS ( which is the same size was amazingly better). I have not had the 2010 release, so I cannot comment on that, but for the price point, if you like the PSD4's...go for a box. I have a hard time pulling the trigger some times too, but when it comes down to price vs. enjoyment vs. knowledge of the stick before you buy it, I tend to go with something I know. I have a hard time buying a box of sticks that I have never smoked before based on others reviews as everyone has a taste difference.
Zedman05 choice = PSD4's as long as you know you already like them.

I don't know, but I just lit up a Serie D. No. 4. and wow... It is really a nice smoke. Big, and full flavored, but also nuanced, and pleasant.
