I did a ton of research on humidity beads and although to each his own, I'm just going to throw out there a name of one to check out. I researched for hours and this is what I picked up. I have no interest in this company and I hope I'm not crossing the line sharing this info. http://www.shilalasbeads.com/
These are HCM beads (clay) and have been discussed in many threads here before. No worries on posting the site info.

My friend bought it new about 8 months ago, so it's fairly new. So the nice thing is it's already seasoned and ready to go.

Even better, nice score. My mini cooler isn't working out so well so I think I have to go this route now. Found one on craigslist for about $300 (can't remember the price) with drawers already built inside, hoping to get that one.

Very nice! Keep us posted, I am trying to go this route as summer is around the corner. Even used all the old people around here want to charge and arm and a leg.

The wineador arrived today, it's a NEWAIR 280E. My buddy had it for 8 months, but he didn't really use it much. I'm just putting someempty boxes in there with a seasoning kit to see how it does.

If this post is in the wrong place please let me know. Now my life is over lol.

Help!!!! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I recently purchased a new 32-bottle unit and cannot get the plastic smell of of this damn thing!! Here is what I've tried so far with no luck...:(
1. Just left unit open for a week with a couple bowls full of baking soda
2. Next filled with newspaper and baking soda, door closed of a week
3. Baking soda/water slurry wash down complete interior, then hot water wash down...no luck still
3a. Filed unit with empty cigar boxes to help absorb smell. It worked, they absorbed smell. But didn't remove it completely.
4. Cap full of bleach and hot water wash down, door open for a week. Added baking soda bowls again after dry.
5. At this point I'm frustrated and have just left door open and check it daily..

At this point I'm running out of options. Where do I go from here? I'm at a loss...

The "gassing" process for the interior plastic walls should not take this long(3-4weeks). Where is this smell coming from? Any help or suggestions I will try at this point. Pretty desperate..

Hi Guys - I am hoping someone can help with a wineador issue. As soon as the fridge turns on, my humidity drops dramatically. Even with beads and an oasis running full speed, the humidity won't get over 60% when the fridge is on. When its unplugged, it holds humidity amazing. Any suggestions?

Its my first project and am trying to get this sorted out.
Any tips would be great.

Hi Jesse,

I have a small 8 bottle Koolatron. Its Thermoelectric.
The problem I have is the moisture inside the unit I think is what kills my RH. Does your unit have a drain plug and is it covered? What's the temp inside where the cooler is stored? I'm trying to solve it by adding more KL than normal to bring the RH back up and unplug the drain hole so that it doesn't puddle inside anymore.

Ya know, even after my time here, every time I see the words "wine cooler" my first thought is 'who the hell is asking about Bartle and James drinks?!'
I think of Zima's when I hear wine cooler. haha

Progress report:

Thanks for the help and suggestion of using the activated charcoal. It's worked perfectly. After 2-3 days the plastic smell was extremely faint. I used a old Nambi filero box to place the charcoal in. It removed the smell and added a light cedar smell. Next step....seasoning. Thanks again guys, appreciate the insight

Has anybody else experienced a random drop in RH in their wineador?

Shortly after moving in, my wineador dropped in humidity severely... like low to mid 30s. I've been trying for a couple of months to bring back up to a stable point and am getting nowhere. I can soak my HF beads and find them dry within a day or two.

I was thinking a leak occurred during the move, but I have checked, double checked, and triple checked. I can't find anything physical to suggest a leak.

Am I missing something really obvious??
