Trays are not here yet, obviously it takes a long time lol.

This is an FYI for everyone that likes the Chasden trays: Sign-ups for the next round just started about 2 min ago. You do not need to commit any cash at this point, just need to get on the list. If you want them, I would get on the list now, they sell out quick.

Great job Justin!

Thanks for sharing the step-by-step process, it definately looks neat and orderly to me.

I agree 100% with you about Shilala (Scott) beads, I'm working on ordering 1 1/2 pds for my 5 cu.ft. cabinet.

Thanks again for sharing my friend!

great write up! i have been researching the idea around for a while, this helps simplify things. couple things though, because of budget issues, i was looking at the 16 bottle Avanti unit at target. pretty sure its the same thing, just less space. and as far as the ETC goes, im no electrician, how does that thing get hooked up???

Please head on over to introductions and tell us a bit about yourself.

As for your question, as long as you buy the prewired version that I linked to, it is as simple as plugging in a power cord.

hmm still a little confused. i thought that cooler you have had a max temp of 64 degrees? how does the ETC raise the temp beyond that to 70 with out splicing/modifying any of the electronics in the cooler? or am i just confusing myself here

Confusing yourself. My avanti is basically off all the time unless the temperature hits my set point which I think is 70, when the ETC senses 70 degrees it allows power to the wine cooler until it reaches a low set point, which is say 67. Now instead of the wine cooler constantly running it just goes on for maybe 1 or 2 min to cool the unit down. This has happened maybe twice since I hooked the unit up (the room is kept at between 65-68 or so) now in the summer since I do not have ac I expect the unit to be turning on and off a lot more.

understood. I was under the assumption that it would raise the max temp on the cooler. was hoping that was the case since the unit will be in my partially unfinished basement, which is maybe 60-62 max during the winter months..

i may need to go a different route... maybe there are cooler units that are factory set to hit up to 70 degrees out there..?

If you want to go higher in temp, then you may need to look into say a heating pad or similar. I have the same 16 bottle Avanti that I am currently having drawers made for by Waxingmoon, they should be done tomorrow. I will send you over a picture when they get here if you want. I am using the 16 bottle for singles storage and the 28 bottle for box storage.

Even if you do find a unit that will allow a wine cooler or refrigerator of some kind to have the high set point at 70 (the temp where cooling starts) there is nothing inside the unit that will actually bring the temp up to that number. Like Vegan said, if you would like to add some sort of heating element (this sounds a bit dangerous) a heating pad or something similar would work. I believe you would need a different type of ETC (one that has 2 power out cords and 1 power in cord) that would allow the cooler to turn on at a set point of 70 and off at 68 and the heat pad to turn on at 65 and turn off at 67. This would keep the wine cooler at a constant temperature between 66 and 69. I would have worries about a heating element around my precious stash though. Let us know how it works out for you.

How many boxes can you fit in this size of wine coller?

I have roughly, 17, these comprise of slbs, cabs and other various sized boxes. I then have 2 trays which hold about 25 sticks each and then some more singles packed in open areas. I have no more room. So, about 575- 625 sticks.

any update on the drawers yet 25??

I did receive most of my trays, still waiting on the other 2 before I post pics (supposedly they are shipping next week, we shall see lol). It is coming along nicely, just not as much room as I had hoped for.
