Donk, you can try all you want, but you won't be able to leave it alone until you get some active humidification, like a CO. It's just not going to work with beads only...sorry dude...
I know the above to be true, but when you get your VinoTemp, don't be surprised if the reality is somehow different. I've yet to come across anyone who has higher humidity at the top of their cooler than at the bottom. I can't explain it, but that's how it works out. The only thing I can figure is that it has to do with temp variation from top to bottom of the cooler...but I never really pay much attention to the temp variations, only the RH.Also something to keep in mind: Humid air rises, it doesn't fall. So it might be a good idea to put your humidifier on the bottom of the cooler instead of the top.
I'm getting to the point where I want to buy a VinoTemp too, so I'm glad to see all the discussions on this subject!
I have made a couple of these:
I hope you understand that sketch.
The good thing about these are that if the fall, they will not leak.
Very fast at least.
The hydrogenperoxide keeps the water bacteria-free and breaks down to oxygen and water, so it's safe to use.
I have beads too, but if I need to get humidity up higher, I use these.
Very cool
Crappy picture taken with my phone.
That's actually a PE-HD plastic bottle.
temp variation plays a LARGE roll. its not uncommon to see the top of a cigar cabinet 2 or 3 degrees warmer than the bottom of the cigar cabinet. This could translate into the relative humidity in the top of your cabinet being 4 or 5 % drier than the bottom of your cabinet.I know the above to be true, but when you get your VinoTemp, don't be surprised if the reality is somehow different. I had a vinotemp 28 bottle thermoelectric cooler for a while before I decided to take it back. I finally gave up on trying to get the humidity up to a reasonable level (63-65%). The experience I had with my cooler (which I had for several days) was that the temperature remained pretty constant throughout but the humidity was consistently about 6% different; the bottom would read around 60% but the top of the cooler would never get beyond about 54%. I never tried going the active humidifier route, but based on my experience, I wouldn't try a cooler again without one.temp variation plays a LARGE roll. its not uncommon to see the top of a cigar cabinet 2 or 3 degrees warmer than the bottom of the cigar cabinet.
