I got bit by another bug
Airguns.
I have slipped and am sliding down the slope. When I joined this forum, I had no idea how deep the Cigar World went. Now I have a Cabinet humidor with roughly 250-300 sticks in it. I am on my 1st gun, but already have a new trigger and scope on the way and am planning to do several other mods in time. The recoil on this gun killed the first scope which was not rated to withstand the double/reverse recoil of a Springer air gun. Anyway, while I am waiting for the new stuff to get here, I am going to strip the factory finish from the stock (pumpkin colored). I bought the stripper I am going to use, and will do the required sanding and wood prep. My question come from, once I get it raw. What do I do from there? Or rather what stain and finish should I use? I am considering just a hand rubbed tung oil finish with no stain at all. But I am seeing that is it going to be really light in color, and maybe a deeper tone would be nice. I am not sure how fancy the grain is below the current stain, so a dark color might help it pop out a bit. Any way what would you wood guys do to a piece of raw White Ash to make it look sweet on a gun stock?
Here is a pic of the factory finish and color.
