Can you accept holiday gifts at work from cowokers, vendors or customers?

We don't have a written policy on it, but if its from a vendor or customer and editable we share it, if its liquor we take it home., if its something we don't want we regift it We normally do not send them out to customers or pass them between coworkers.

I got this today:

As a supervisor, I can give my employee's awards (This year I gave them Northface winter parkas for the MN weather), and I can give them Gifts off duty, I will give them all Gift Cards, These employee's work there ass off during the fire season (12 to 16 hrs days) and high stress, I think it is the least I can do for them, They make me and my office look good .....

We can definitely accept gifts. A few of my co-workers have received 6-packs. Just last week I received a RASS from a good customer of ours after striking up a conversation about cigars.

One thing I never understood was people running around collecting money in order to buy the owner of a business a Christmas gift.

I used to work at a small construction company, and the Superintendint did just that. I declined, saying I would do so at a later date and I was dealing with a financial hardship at the time. No one ever bothered me about it, and my name wasn't on the christmas card at the company party when it was presented.

It was a very nice and expensive hunting knife. It cost those people that payed for it quite a bit of money.

At that time, the owner had been promising me an all expense paid trip to Lake Tahoe in return for making him ALOT of money on two big projects where I was the foreman. I spent over half a year living in hotel rooms and working unpaid overtime to finish those projects.

I never got that trip, strangely enough, (I got a Skill saw. It was nice).

It wasn't VERY nice, but it was nice. The reason I was offered the ski trip was a bonus would have been taxed at a very high rate, but the trip could have been written off as a business expense and I would come back to work feeling rested and ready to work even harder...

I don't miss working for that company....

I put a lot of work this year into a very large project for a customer and that is how they rewarded me for it. I look forward to working with this customer again.
