Mr. Ninja, while I do understand and appreciate your stand on it, things aren't always going to go the way you like. Are you going to keep moving to a different section of the bar because someone new walked into your area and doesn't like cigar smoke?

What about going to a cigar friendly restaurant then, after dinner, while enjoying your cigar and maybe a libation, a couple comes in, smoking cigarettes and tells you that your cigar is offensive. Are you going to move to a different table? While I agree there are times a softer approach is better, there are times that standing your ground, not allowing YOUR rights to be trampled, is the best, and correct way to handle it.

My apologies for my rant.
And that's a valid point. If I am there first, then I do think the new person has a responsibility to check out the scene before sitting down.

A few years ago I was in Vegas at a smaller casino playing blackjack. It was a $2 table (yes, years ago) and it's possible that I had had a few drinks... So I am playing in a manner that most books would suggest not playing like (splitting 10s is always fun). Anyway, a woman came up to the table and sat down immediately to my right and started getting upset with the way I was playing. C'mon, it's a $2 table, I've been playing like that for about half an hour and if she was that concerned about style of play then she should have, at the very least, stood and watched how I played before sitting down. AND probably shouldn't have sat to my right.

Same thing with cigars - if I am the one just sitting down, I'll pay attention to that. But if I am there already, I do expect the new arrival to take some responsibility for where they choose to sit.

The biggest question that I have after reading through all of this is: You're able to smoke in bars and restaurants? NOT something we have been allowed to do for several years here in MN.

I fall more on the side of StogieNinja.... Not to say that there aren't times when a hostile reaction is warranted but my general philosophy has always been that you draw more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Rupe, there's an app for that... It's called cigar friendly places.

Edit: cigar places
I think you missed my point. It has been illegal to smoke anywhere indoors in a public place in the state of Minnesota for about 5 years now. That includes bars, restaurants, hotels, and pretty much everywhere else with the exception of a handful of cigar lounges that have been grandfathered in. New cigar lounges are not allowed to open. My guess is that there are maybe a dozen cigar lounges left in the state, most of which are in the twin cities (100 miles away from me). About the only cigar friendly places near me are my car, my garage and my backyard when it's not raining or 20 below outside.

Just consider yourself lucky that you live in Texas where the fascists haven't taken away your freedoms yet.

Sorry for the thread jack guys....Rant over.

Yeah I raised a brow as well to that. Smoking in restaurants has been banned for a long time around here. We still can smoke in bar though, just not anywhere in doors that food is served.

Same in SC/GA. I remember the days of smoked filled resturants and bars. That all changed about 4/5 years ago.

The one exception is a cigar bar in town but they cannot have a license to sell food because it is technically a cigar store that sells beer/wine too.

Thanks, back to your normally scheduled show...

Someone smoking a cigarette has the balls to look at me and say do you know what that cigar is doing to you its worse then smoking 10 cigarettes.

I follow that up with a WTF are you talking about...(and i keep a straight face the entire time, they usually panic).
My reply: Do you know that telling me how bad my cigar is for me is doing more damage to you than smoking the carton that you cigarette came in?
