Thanks, Fidel. I've read that line too many times to count, but have never seen the poem in its entirety. And glad to see it now.

Same here. Really enjoyed reading the entire poem.

One of my other favorite Kipling verses as follows:

And here's to the men of my breed,
Good, bitter, bad they may be,
For at least hear the things that I hear,
And see the things that I see.

Because its so easy to get lost with a good cigar. Its almost like a puzzle ,what flavor your tasting, what flavor will come next, why is the flavor there? The different blends, the filler, the binder the wrapper, every subtle difference that makes each one unique in its own way, and trying to decode those diffences its just indiscribable to anyone who doesnt understand. And that time spent with good frends and cigar lovers only makes the experiance better.

Well, because I can and, like Franz Liszt said once: "A good Cuban cigar closes the doors to the vulgarities of the world".

Why do I do it?

It all depends.

For me, cigars started as a way to hang out with friends. To this day, I will usually enjoy a cigar more when smoking with a friend then by myself.

But sometimes I just need some "me" time. These days I'm staying home with my infant son, and after hours of fussing and wondering if I'm where I want to be or not, an hour or more with a good cigar can help me clear my head, relax, and decompress. Include a good prayer time with that, or maybe an audiobook, and smoking a stoggie becomes one of the best ways I have found to spend a quiet hour by myself once the wee one is asleep.

As others mentioned to relax, unwind and think abouth the past, present and future. Scocialize with friends and meet new people at the lounge. I also enjoy the taste of a good cigar that is on.

I am continually amazed at the personalities of the people I meet in this community we call Cigar Smokers. Participation on other forums remind me that nothing is absolute but for the most part, I am drawn to the interests and humors of these B/SOTL. I am reminded of times, weather they be herfs of new found friends or old buddies gathered around the poker table, of great fellowship and engaging conversation. Trading knowledge of our leafed passion melts hours into minutes and can burn an evening up in seconds but it's the friendships forged that give this past time the allure that keeps me coming back.

So why do I do it? I do it because it gives me 10x back what I invest.
Amen, brother. I can't even think of anything that gives as much back to you as this practice of smoking cigars. Here is what it continues to give back to me. I am clearly more patient and relaxed and definitely more congenial and I don't know of any medication that can give you more bang for the buck than this pratice of having a good cigar. Do I spend alot of money on this habit? I put $60 of gas a week into my car and I probably drink $60 every few weeks at Starbucks. Another $200 a month for stuff like eating at fast food places or taking in a movie and none of these things give me the pleasure that a good cigar does. I am slowly cutting my gas bill in half, cutting my fast food and coffee habit in half as well and it appears that my cigar fund just shot up by $160 a month. Life just suddenly got better!:awholelot
