I heard once that a cigar manufacturer (I don't remember which one) were wrapping some of their cigars in a yellow tinted cello to give the impression of age.
I have no idea if that's true or not, just what I heard.
A Perdomo cigar? Champagne something?

If that is the one you are thinking of, in Nick's defense, that was not to imply age, but it was part of the marketing of the cigar. When they fist came out, all of the Perdomo Cabinet line cigars came in colored cello: champagne = dark yellow/gold, maduro = red, Cameroon = silver, sun grown = white, and I think there might have been one or two more.

The colored cello was eventually dropped on all of them except the champagne for a combination of reasons: cost & ability to view the cigars - retailers were complaining that customers couldn't read the bands through the cello. The red was too dark and the silver and white were almost opaque, even with the cello pressed down against the band, you could barely read through it.

I don't know if the champange still comes in the yellow/gold cello or not, for a time it was the only one that remained in the colored cello, and even though it was yellow, that cello was so bright and vivid that it was not a color that I would think that anyone could mistake for age.

I have seen some other brands of cigars that ship in cello that might be significantly older than the cigar or it might be slightly tinted. Or, those particular cigars just happen to be degassing ammonia like mad, which will change the color of the cello rather quickly.
