Let me start off my saying, I love the Liga Privada series, in fact the L40s are my third full box purchase ever.
But I have smoked two T52s in my life, both of which ended up cracking mid way through the smoke. The one I smoked today ended up having a major wrapper problem

Are the T52 wrappers typically this delicate or did I end up getting a pretty isolated problem?

These have been in my humidor at low 60s temp and an RH of 65% for a bit now. So it shouldn't be a humidity issue in my limited knowledge.

Just wanted to reiterate that this is not a DE bash thread! I'm a huge fan of the series and have recently spent close to $400 on the Liga line in the last two months. Just wanted to see if this particular stick has been known to have a delicate wrapper so I can take extra care of the rest of my stock.

Could just be a bad stick, happens, JD makes some amazing stuff, but even the best will have a bad one from time to time.

Also looks like it could have been subjected to too quick of a rise in humidity, causing the filler and binder to swell slightly and the wrapper to burst. I'm only hesitant to say that cause 65 rH isn't really that high. I keep my cigars at around there, maybe a tick or two higher, but never over 68%, and I've never had an issue with any of my Liga's or UC's.

How long were these in your humidor? Just curious for more info, I know some Brother's around here like their stuff even a little drier at <65% rH, but I don't think anybody will disagree that 65 is pretty good and not overly wet.

I wouldn't be surprised in JD himself makes an appearance here. Although if memory serves me correctly, the storage conditions of his humidor is as closely guarded of a secret as the location of the alien bodies from Area 51. (I've actually heard rumors the bodies are actually stored IN his humidor, probably why he so secretive....)

When did the cracks appear? Is it possible they were handled poorly at the B&M? They may have been in the process of cracking due to poor handling at the B&M and didn't really completely crack until you went to smoke it.

Just brainstorming here, I've never had a problem with my t52s.

Hah, nope. Didn't drop it. If that happened I probably wouldn't have to be playing Nancy Drew

It could have been from the vendor, since I believe both sticks came from the same online seller.

Glad my case seems to be an isolated event so far.

as these were online, could it have been shipping?

I've NEVER had that issue with a T52. I've actually always considered the T52 wrapper pretty stout. I would venture a guess that something happened in the handling of the sticks, either at the retailer or in shipping.

I've never seen it happen that bad with a Liga. I tend to agree with most here in that this was an isolated incident and shipping may be an issue here. No way to know for sure but I've always had great luck with any/all Liga.

If it has been in YOUR humidor for 6 months how at all can you blame the vendor? It is either a manufacture's issue or something you did... don't see how it has anything to do with the vendor.

Since I didn't really check too closely for cracks when I got the shipment... So like others have said during the shipping or the packaging of the cigars. That's how

With that being said, I was not trying to pass blame on anyone on purpose. I apologies if I did. just trying to gather some information

Liga wrappers are tough. The condition of a stick that has been in your possesion for six months is pretty much all on you. Imho

The crack seems to have started near the cap, not the foot, right?

I've known a few sticks to split the wrapper when smoking simply from the way the stick expands near the foot - but this is generally only a concern when you're smoking in particularly humid conditions. Case in point, Cain maduros were notorious about this.

Cracks near the cap (but not on the cap) are generally a result of mishandling, in my experience. I'd wager that it was cracked when you received it, or something happened since. Sucks, but what can you do... That's why you've really gotta look closely at sticks when you're purchasing at a B&M. Never know what idiot has just fingerbanged that stick trying to determine whether it's "fresh". (Inapplicable in this case, I know - just saying.)

As for the other part, I don't think I've ever had a T52 split on me, but that's not to say it won't happen. Actually, it probably will now that I've said something about it. Now where's that "knock on wood" emote...

My money is on your humidor since that was the last place it spent a substantial amount of time. Are there really that many construction issues with D.E sticks? I have seen several threads regarding this issue and each with a reply and kick back from the company. Just saying.

I have had a T52 crack on me, but not like that. It was a single long crack (2") starting about an inch from the foot... but it smoked right all the way trough.
