What's a good cigar to keep around for the leeches?

So I'm sure we all have one, that friend who always asks for a cigar, and then another one later in the night, but never brings anything to the table.

As it turns out, I have a few.

What's a decent smoke to keep on hand for them, that won't cost much at all? Something along the lines of a robusto/corona gorda would probably be best. Unfortunately I don't have as much experience with the <$5 smokes.

Brickhouse or Joya de Nicaragua. Two very good smokes for their sub $5.00/stick price. If you can find them on sale, the Arturo Fuente Hemingway line is very tasty as well...

I don't ever mind handing out any particular brands, but due to the gifting nature of this board, I keep getting sticks that I've never tried before. I like to hang onto smokes that I wouldn't normally have the opportunity to get on my own.

That being said, it's annoying to have a "leech" so maybe just pick up a box of the small Padrons. They are not expensive, but also great smokes, even for a noob.

dude, alec bradley american classic. about $4, honduran grown CT shade, and they are actually pretty good! kinda got overshadowed by the black market, but revisit these.

I like to keep Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial short robustos for the leeches... as I love the cigar myself, I don't mind if after pounding a few back I reach in a pull one out by mistake.

When a brother had a large lot of RP's for cheap awhile back I jumped on them. Now when I hand a leech a smoke they say "oh wow, a Rocky Patel! Thanks!", and I light up my Padron and say "your welcome".

Yeah I am mostly with you. Have no problem sharing any cigar but if a repetetive leech would buy some acids to keep on hand till they got the picture.

Normally i would agree with you, however I have groups of friends over quite regularly. A couple of them, well not poorly intentioned, get a couple drinks in them and view it as a free-for-all.

Close friends that actually smoke cigars can have whatever they want from my stash...close friends that wouldn't know a LP from a Philly Blunt get something a little less expensive, lol. I never give them something I consider a bad cigar, but always reach for a great value cigar. Padron x000 series, any number of Perdomos, etc.

Exactly what he said.
Realizing some of you are on a college budget I can see this being a problem but you can tell them, they supply the booze you supply the cigars. Plus a good/true friend doesn't take advantage of you or atleast shouldn't...but that was how I was raised.

2nd on the AB American Classics. Less than $100 for a box of 20. After a few of them over some time, and mentioning the value they are <$5 a stick, I got some of my "newish" cigar buddies to split a box and I agreed to store it in the Coolidor for them. Problem solved.

AB American Classic is otherwise a great, flavorful, consistent, mild CT wrapped stick at a great value too. One of my more casual cigar smoking buddies actually switched from only smoking an Ashton from time to time and bumming off me to just buying and keeping a box of the AB AC's on hand because they taste very similar to him for 1/2 the price.

A lot of people who aren't "really into" cigars recognize Rocky Patel, which makes them perfect for this purpose.

Another one I'd throw out there is the 601 series. A little more than $5 per stick, unless you get a good deal on cigar bid which is possible. However, these have the added benefit of being something you say was in the Cigar Aficionado top 25 (if you get the blues)... which I'm sure will makes your leech buddies get a little excited.

Pinar del Rio Reserva Limitada are like $3.25 a stick and are not only perfect as hand outs they're a good everyday cigar.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Oliva Gs. Robo Maddys are $2.50/stick here, good flavor/construction and not gonna overpower anyone.

I found most new to cigar people only smoke half of a robo sized cigar before ditching it so I keep smaller smokes around. PCRs are the perfect price point and I love them so its not like I ever get stuck with a bunch of crappy yard gars.
