Just a quick review. Very quick

I've been smoking mostly cubans over the past few weeks. Most all of them stellar. The most disappointing was last nights petit edmundo. The most outstanding was the PSD4 from '07. But last night I followed up the unimpressive petit edmundo with my first double edged sword.

The Viaje DES is a true testament to the fact that a cigar doesn't have to be cuban to be stellar. This cigar was amazing. Obviously a way different profile than the PSD4, but probably just as impressive. It had deep rich flavors that were very well balanced. A thick meaty smoke. A perfect draw. I think it was med-full in strength. The retro-hale made my nose burn so I didn't do that anymore, so I have no idea what the retro-hale tasted like other than very spicy peppery, I think that's why my eyes started watering.

I'm not one of those guys that tastes toasted walnuts and green peppercorns in cigars, which is surprising because i can do that with food. If you wanna know what it tastes like, i'll copy and paste the above below...

All in all, it was awesome. I will be seeking more of these as I've enjoyed the couple VORs that i've had and it is becoming apparent to me that the reserve stuff that viaje puts out is always stellar.

Pick some up if you can.

Unfortunately, I was left unimpressed with the DES...as I have with the majority of Viaje's products. Guess I didn't let it sit long enough

Yes, its true these sticks are turning into something really special. Smoked 3 over the last 8-10 months. Each time I'm amazed at how much better they get.

Kinda like the Viaje Atlantic Exclusive Lancero which is also turning out pretty stellar.

Unfortunately these were before my time. I started smoking Cigars about Sep-Oct 2010 & my first Viaje was the Holiday Blend that year. I think in general a lot of what Andre releases needs a good amount of time it seems. Then again I guess it depends on what you're looking for.... kinda feel like I'm missing out not having smoked a DES though. Pretty sure I read somewhere he's releasing them again though so hopefully they're just as good. Certainly not missing out if they are released again.

Im with you. I started smoking about the time Viaje released the second "Mystery" S&B, but have been a Viaje fan ever since. Still have a few from 10, but missed out on the DES. Now i am going to have to find one somewhere. The biggest prob with Viaje is the limited number of sticks they put out. They are hard to find and costly when you do...Starts getting frustrating even for a fan like myself... Hope to get my hands on one of these sometime!

I agree with you on the Exclusivo Lancero. I was kind of "Miffed" at first, but they've turned the
corner now! ;o)

One of the best cigars I have had. Unfortunately I do not have anymore. I would gladly buy some more if anyone has any to sell!!!!
