Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a Cigar Caddy 15ct. travel humidor. So far, so good.

My question for the community is for those who have one as well. I have not seen any type of recommendations regarding refilling the Humi cap at the top of the box. I live in what we call the "River Valley" and, well... its pretty humid outside. I like to keep my house a steady 68 - 70 degrees, and have some nice Honeywell air purifiers cleaning the house on both sides.

What do you guys (who have one or one similar) have scheduled to refill that cap? I am looking around online right now to find a decent (but small) Hygrometer so I can see what the levels really are in there. But it seems to me (And my untrained eye) that the cap is drying up fairly quickly.

Of course that has nothing to do with my infatuation with smelling the 4 stogies I have in there every other 2 hours........ (I know... Im breaking that habit).

If anyone has any suggestions as to their maintenance for one of these little guys, I sure would appreciate their 2 cents. I bought this, thinking I wasn't going to be aging a collection of cigars, but the itch is bad..... And im working on some CC's from a friend, so "ideally" I would like to age those in AT-LEAST a desktop Humi.

Regards,
-Chrisso

I don't put anything in it. But I don't use it for longer than a week.

Anywhere inside....on top of or under the cigars. As long as you have a good seal it really won't matter as long as it is inside your sealed humi.

The beauty of a Boveda is that it is slim in design and will not take up extra space in your humi. It will also regulate the humidity very well.

That's what I figured.

I thought about under the gray foam, but I didn't think it would work like it supposed to that way. thanks!

You can buy boveda packs online, or from your local B&M for about $3 each, give or take. Get yourself a 69% or two, and throw them in there. You actually don't even have to worry about it from there. Just check the Boveda's once in a great while to see if they're crunchy or not. If they get stiff and crunchy, go buy yourself a couple more. :) They will last you a good amount of time, and you can decide where to go from there.

If you're thinking about putting some age on a couple sticks, then get yourself a desktop at the very least. If you think you're going to get into it even more than that, then a coolidor may make sense for you. If you're smelling the cigars every two hours, settle in here, you may have the bug, lol.

Actually, no need to buy more once they get crunchy. Check out the following thread for how to rehydrate them.

I quit using them because they were too expensive but got back "on the wagon" after reading this thread.

good point, but it also helps to have a couple to rotate in and out. huge heartfelt beads fan now, but use those in conjunction with boveda packs, mostly as a barometer for if it is time to spritz my beads. o)

to the OP, if the seal is good, you really do not need anything, or anything much, if you can keep it closed. small air volume = small humidify action needs.

So many types of media to use...keep it simple as a pillow works perfect. If you travel by plane the Herf A Dor Caddy tends to be a bit tough open with the changing of altitudes..it seals like a real mofo.

Take care with a water pillow as they can easily over saturate a small caddy. Remember it is a sealed environment.

I use them all the time in my Herf A Dor caddy...but as said you want at least 15 cigars or more so that you don't over saturate.
Clean and easy! WaterPillows will keep up to 25 cigars fresh for a month, or longer. Just soak a pillow in DISTILLED water for 20 seconds and watch it puff-up. Slip it into its baggie, put it in your humidor, and forget it. Ideal for factory-made boxes, travel humidors, and homemade containers.

I have a clear Otterbox 3500, which is the same size as your Cigar Caddy 15. I'm using foam trays from CigarSolutions.com, with a Hygroset II hygrometer, and an ounce of Heartfelt beads sewn into a 99-cent aquarium-filter-charcoal bag from a pet shop. I cut some holes in the foam trays, for air circulation.

Yeah I dig that setup too Aroma.

I guess if when I get a bead setup like this, then it would take a little bit of time for the installed Humi to pull its moisture out? Like maybe a day of just straight open container?

Dont think I want to throw beads in there, with that little dude still holding water right?

Thanks,
-Chrisso

If you switch to an alternative humidification system, I would just get rid of the humidifier that came with the cigar caddy.
