Box Packaging - What's Your Preference?

I tend not to take much notice of the cigars in fancy boxes such as those produced by Ghurka, etc. I admire some of the amazing embossed lithography and artwork produced by some manufacturers, but I find I am more attracted to a simple cabinet slide lid box (slb) with an embossed stamp in the wood. Maybe it's because they highlight the cigar and not the packaging. I like the modern simplicity of what PeteJ does for his limited production, the RP Edge rustic stamped look, the LFD factory Press presentation, etc. However, my favorite packaging was the AVO LE05 box which was simply pieces of wood taped together, no stamp, just a simple label sealing the lid closed and no bands on the cigar.

Interested to hear what others have to say about what packaging attracts them to a cigar.

As a photographer and designer I do tend to look at the packaging and see what I am attracted to (this doesn't mean I'll jump on that stick). I like clean simple design work, something that complements the cigar and showcases it.

Lol Gurkha to me spends more time on their box designs than on their cigars. When it comes to cigars for me, I'm never really attracted to a box, more what inside of them. If some sticks I want to try have a cool box that's a plus I guess. And IMO the coolest boxes out their are the Tatuaje Monster dress boxes.

Also, some box designs have stopped me from buying them. Example, the Viaje zombies. I mean who has room for such a ridiculously long box in their Wineador/Coolidor lol.

I would agree with this. I've never bought cigars based purely off the packaging. In fact, there are times - specifically with Gurkha or even the Papas Fritas - where I believe the MSRP is increased due to packaging and it becomes a bit of a turnoff.

Glad to hear that it's not just me that has a preference for slb with stamp. I'm liking what CLE has done with the Asylum slb, the stamp is simple but elegant and that band is a masterpiece. Also like what Matt Booth did with the Nama and Daruma boxes, not slb but simple and real eye-catching without being pretentious.

Simple but classy. I think the Undercrown boxes are a great example. Simple but bold logo and the blue and gold band on the box just gives a little extra pop.

I really don't care what the box looks like just as long as the cigar is quality, that's all I ask!I will say that MY Father LB box's are amazing and I love the art on the paper but hey...It's the Don...watta ya expect!

I love the My Father Boxes, the Flor de Las Antillas, Le Bijou, etc. They look classy to me.

I love simple SLBs with stamped logo on it. I also enjoy some of the fancier boxes out there like the BHK. When in doubt, simplicity is always best.

I think the CroMag boxes (cabs) with the band-less cigars rocks. Haven't seen the new bands but they're needed especially when you buy a couple of singles. The HG dress box is great as well. I like cigars w/out cello wrapped in tissue or wax paper inside a natural box.

As far as packaging, I just wrap em in some bubble pack and slip em into a small priority box. Yeah I know, already had this reply thought up based on the title and I hate to waste a thought since they come so few and far between.

I have only seen this box online and I don't think they even offer them anymore but Carlos Torano has a box shaped like a fortress for his Fortress cigars. The cigar is just ok but I would love one of those boxes to display. I figured that box probably wouldn't be around to long just because it wasn't cheap (at least it didn't look cheap in the pic).

Im pretty utilitarian when it comes to the boxes.. I dont really care what they look like.. I just want them to be functional..

Ive seen a lot of boxes that look cool.. but take up a ton of space unnecessarily.. or are such an odd shape or a non standard height/width, that they dont fit well on the shelves of my cabinet or wineador..

When thats the case, I just take the sticks out of the box.. pitch it.. and end up putting the sticks in another box or tray that I have on hand that is better suited for my needs...

pretty pictures, carvings, etc on boxes is cool and all... but Im all about maximizing space and keeping sticks stored well... if the box looks pretty in addition to that... awesome!

I'm not picky, but I like the slide top. I will say I prefer a true cedar box.
