Hey Brothers,

Like mentioned in my introduction thread, i'm fairly new to the pleasures of Cigar smoking.

What got me into this hobby was the fact that i recently (2 months ago) quit a 12 year old smoking habit (I'm only 26 now, and ashamed to say that i started smoking cigarettes at an early age of 14) I'm not ashamed to admit it, it was due to peer pressure.

Well, ever since i gave up smoking, i havent been enjoying my malts as much as i used to.

A month ago, my wife hosted a party in celebration of me kicking my habit (Which she despised of off course). And a dear friend got me a cigar.

This wasn't my first cigar (though it was the first i smoked with an interest) and much to my delight, it not only accompanied the flavors of my malt (Bowmore 15 years) but infact it complimented it brilliantly!

Ever since, I've tried a few to experiment where my tastes lie, and over the course of the last month i've also ordered my first humidor (Currently in transit from the states) It's the Lotus Black Edition Carbon Fiber 40ct humidor.

Here are the cigars i've had so far & my thoughts about them. Please note: I am by no means an expert and the notes below were purely meant for my own referral when purchasing cigars in the future. So don't judge my palate as i'm just a beginner :)

Camacho Corojo - Toro Cello

Notes: Dark looking, strong pungent smell. Started of spicy and gave a good draw with lots of smoke. Initially i didn't like it too much, but became enjoyable halfway down the stick since it mellowed down.

Would I buy it again? - Maybe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Romeo y Julieta - Romeo No.2 - Desde 1875

Notes: Good light brown/blondish color. Started of with a brilliant nutty flavor. Great consistent flavor, great draw, burned inconsistently, but smoking just one cigar of any brand/type/make is not enough to judge.

Would i buy it again? - YES!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Don Diego Monarch (Tube)------Note: longer than usual cigars

Notes: Good light brown/blondish color. Started off with great creamy flavor, enjoyed it with a regular whiskey. Consistent flavor, consistent smoke. Burned nicely through the 1st half, but became harder to pull as soon as 1st half was over. (Noticed a hardness on the part where it was harder to pull). A little too long for my liking, but otherwise a good cigar.

Would i buy it again? - Maybe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Cohiba siglo III

Notes: Good shade of brown. Smelled spicy like a full bodied cigar does. First 1/3 was decent, nothing great, felt bland to my pallete, probably because I like the nuttiness and creamy flavor of previous cigars I've tried, but the second 1/3rd became more to my liking. Good consistent burn, had to touch up only once. The end was great and enjoyed it a lot.
The first 1/3rd was had with a mango martini, so it could have influenced my tastes.
The remainder was had with a strawberry margarita.
Too soon to judge with just 1 stick though.

Would I buy it again: Maybe

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Since you guys are far more experienced than me, would you be able to suggest a few sticks regardless of my palate.

I'd like to try as many as i can :)

Cheers!

Looks like you have put down a good baseline with the cigars. I haven't focused much on my pairings yet, but I bet that bowmore would go great with a Connecticut like a cusano 18 or 5 Vegas gold. And for their prices I think you would get a pretty nice return. Hope that helped bro, and happy pairing!

Plus you have the advantage of access to cigars no matter the country pf origin so as far as smokes go the world is your oyster ...check out the Romeo churchills since you liked the Romeo so much and the partagas p2 I've heard good things about. I've not had one but they are en route. 40 ct humi...cute. You might as well start your "you guys were right I've outgrown my humidor already" post. Lol

I'm in my 40's now. Started smoking when I was 14 as well but that's just how it was in the country back then. Even in a city surrounding growing up in a country lifestyle meant chewing and smoking at an early age among other things. I quit smoking cold turkey when I was around 30, quit chewing in my late 20's. Always enjoyed a good cigar though so like you it wasn't until I quit smoking cigarettes that my passion for cigars took off. Curious to know how your wife took your new hobby after just quitting? Funny thing is I absolutely HATE cigarette smoke or the smell of it on people...not so with cigar or pipe smoke.

Thank you for your suggestion mistaforty, the romeo churchils are on my to-do list and so are the portages p2. The thing is, cigar culture in dubai isnt really that big, therefore it's a limited number of retailers with mainly cubans stocked.

I was looking into the variety available and heres a retailer i found with the following:

Romeo y Julieta
Cohiba
Partagas
H. Upmann
Hoyo de Monterrey
Cuaba
Montecristo
Punch
Trinidad
Bolivar
El Rey del Mundo
Fonseca
Ramon Allones
Saint Luis Rey
San Cristobal
Sancho Panza
Vegas Robaina
Davidoff
Zino Platinum
Don Diego
Quorum

I will be checking out la casa del habano too.

However, i havent found anyone stocking cigars such as Rocky Patel, gurkha and a few others.

I will be stocking up on my trial run cigars once the humi arrives this weekend :)
