So Ive watched the fight 3 times and my thought are I'm so pissed. Not at silva losing but how he has dissrespected the sport in doing so. Hats off to and congratulations to Wiedman, fought a solid fight and his future title defences will prove wether his is the real deal or not. I see it as Silva didn't respect wiedman, those are the only times he plays around like that, figured he play with him for first 2 rounds and then just finish him. Glad the cocky guy lost but if he was tired of fighting(post fight interview) why just not retire and vacate the belt rather than put on that disrespectful performance. Fight forums are going crazy calling it fixed, silva threw the fight etc. here are my thoughts
UFC/Dana white fixed the fight: Makes no sense, If Silva wins easily then it's the perfect set up for Silva/Jones superfight. 2 undefeated champions facing each other the PPV would be HUGE!, sure the fight could still happen but tens of millions of dollars went out the door with Silva losing.
Silva threw the fight cause he was tired of being champ: Silva's post fight comments clearly show that he was tired of dealing up with all the demands of being UFC champion but I think Silva's EGO will never let him throw a fight. His stupid antics are typical display of Silva's arrogance "look i can act like a fool and still win." It almost bit him in the first sonnen fight when silva underestimated sonned and look how Silva destroyed him in the remach to show the world first fight was a fluke.
Silva threw the fight cause he did want to fight Jones: This probably most plausable. People sometimes forget Silva is 38 years old and Jones (25). Silva hasn't had to really work in a fight for 8 yrs and he'd have to work his ass off to face jones. But i go back to Silvas huge EGO i don't think its in him.
So i guess in closing i think Silva didn't respect Wiedman and his 10 fight record. His original plan was dance around, play games. Win the fight then retire avoiding the Jones Superfight thus remaining undefeated. Wiedman caught silva and changed that plan. In my opinion the UFC should talk silva into retiring or release him from his contract for dissrespecting the sport and orginazation. People think Silva put huge money against himself for a payday, or that the UFC was in on this. Only way to squash that talk is to toss him out. The biggest loser is actually Wiedman cause no one sees him as legitimate champion and perhaps never will.
