Nice use of all 4 pockets on the Guayabera Sean. I have one too, but have only ever had 2 pockets full.

And thanks to you Tim I just did my first DE wet shave tonight. Wow so much closer of a shave and I am not a intimidated as I was about it before.
Time to order a blade sampler, pre-shave, after shave and a stand for the brush and shaver.
Also need a little more work on my shave lather.

I love my guayaberas. I have about 10... Been wearing them since I was about 16. Love carrying drinks four at a time!

You going to go full on Straight Razor, or start out with DE?
Nah.... Nothing to be scared of. If you can shave with a cartridge, a de takes little adjustment. Just don't let your kids run into the bathroom and use you as the safe base for a game of tag while you are shaving.

It's the sharpest instrument I've ever handled. Can easily filet your face but the shave is second to none and no irritation
I'm intrigued and would love to try it, but I feel like there can only be so many hobbies that take up my time before I never have a free moment. Maybe one day...sigh.
Either way you'll be fine. Just remember to take your time, no one has ever won an award for the fastest shave.
Also true in my experience. No nicks with my DE if I don't rush. Very little learning curve from cartridge.
Donk i was in the same boat as you, however I remembered that I saw a couple de razors, bowl and brush at the old farmhouse. Did a little research and learned there is actually LESS discomfort with using a de razor. So I found http://www.westcoastshaving.com/ and ordered a pack of feather blades. (on a side note they have sampler packs that are a far better deal than just ordering one brand I later discovered.) and have been shaving daily to every other day with none of the irritation I had with a mach 3. The bowl form the farm is a bowl made in 1918, the brush is badger but idk what or when but it's OLD!, and the two razors are antique gillette. They just don't make things like they used to. I'm sure my grandfather and possibly great grandfather used them. Hell I have a Winchester model 1894 30-30 that was mfg. in 1903 that's been in the family since it was new. Anyhow as to my original reason for searching this thread back up...What about a dedicated thread to shaving/hygiene/etc? is there one and I don't know where to look?

ATL got me into it. I picked up an Edwin Jagger razor about 3 weeks ago, and haven't looked back. It's a lot easier for me that I thought. I was worried that I would cut up my face, but I must have tough skin because it really does feel the same as shaving with a gilette mach 3.
Highly recommend everyone to try it out. The razors aren't expensive, the blades are cheap and last for a while, and it is a nice experience to lather up and shave like men did just a few years ago.
